Proposal: Technical Writers Needed — System Design / Software Engineering Documents
What I'm looking for:
I need original, professionally-written technical documents in the software engineering / system design space. Examples of acceptable document types:
- System/technical design docs (architecture decisions, trade-offs, constraints, edge cases, failure modes)
- Requirements docs or PRDs
- Runbooks / SOPs (with exact commands, preconditions, failure handling)
Incident reports / postmortems
- Engineering recommendation memos (weighing options, stating a position, driving a decision)
Important — please read carefully before applying:
This work must be original content you create from scratch for this project — not a document from your current or past job, even if you personally wrote it. Most employment contracts assign ownership of work product to the employer, so even documents you authored yourself likely aren't yours to sell or license. I'm not able to accept:
Real documents from your actual workplace, even anonymized or lightly edited
Confidential, proprietary, or trade-secret material of any kind
Anything publicly available online (published reports, filings, blog posts, etc.)
Requirements:
- 100% human-written — no AI-generated or AI-assisted content. Submissions are run through AI-detection review before any payment or acceptance.
- English (US professional context preferred)
- .docx format only
- Minimum 150 words per page
- Should reflect real engineering depth: specific trade-offs, quantified assumptions, concrete failure handling — not generic or boilerplate writing
How it works:
- Apply with a short description of the document you'd propose to write (type + brief scenario).
- If selected, write the full document and submit as .docx.
- I review for originality, AI-usage, and quality.
- If it passes, you're paid [insert your rate/amount], and I acquire full rights to the document as work-for-hire — please note this in your acceptance of the job.
