We are looking for a 3D character artist/illustrator to create character artwork for our tabletop game, Hot Chase.
We already have an established visual direction and are specifically looking for someone who can reproduce a stylized 3D cartoon aesthetic with a low-poly / faceted finish.
Visual Style
The characters should have:
- Stylized 3D cartoon proportions
- Slightly exaggerated faces and expressions
- A faceted / low-poly appearance
- Chunky, toy-like forms rather than realistic anatomy
- Bright, highly saturated colours
- Clean, readable silhouettes
- Polished materials and cinematic lighting
- Dynamic poses with lots of personality
- A fun arcade / board-game feel rather than realistic or serious character art
Think colourful, expressive 3D game character artwork rather than traditional flat 2D illustration.
We will provide reference artwork from Hot Chase showing the exact visual direction we want matched.
Character
The initial job will be to develop a character that fits seamlessly alongside our existing Hot Chase artwork.
If the style match is successful, there is potential for additional characters and ongoing game artwork.
Characters should be visually expressive enough that their personality and gameplay role can be understood almost immediately.
Deliverables
We require:
- High-resolution final character artwork suitable for print
- Minimum 300 DPI
- Transparent-background PNG
- Character artwork suitable for standard playing-card layouts
- High-resolution version for rulebooks, promotional artwork and game packaging
- Editable/source files where possible
If the character is created as a true 3D model, please also specify whether the 3D source/model files are included in your quote.
When Applying
Please include:
- Examples of your stylized 3D character work
- Examples of low-poly, faceted or toy-like character designs
- Any previous board-game, card-game, mobile-game or video-game character artwork
- Your preferred software (Blender, ZBrush, Maya, Cinema 4D, etc.)
- Your price per character
- Whether your quote includes the editable 3D model/source files
Please only apply if your portfolio contains work reasonably close to the reference style.
We are not currently looking for realistic characters, anime artwork or traditional flat/vector cartoon illustration.
