I have designed a small 6 × 6.5 m outbuilding that sits on 650 mm brick walls with a 150 mm cavity of Thermalite blocks and facing brick. Above the masonry I’m installing an oak-framed storey—sill and eaves beams on 200*200 mm studs—then four steel columns that carry a 4 × 2 m roof lantern within a flat roof.

Before I place any orders, I’d like a qualified structural engineer to verify the overall load-bearing capacity of the scheme. The review should concentrate on structural integrity, general material selection, and specifically cover:

• Brick cavity walls
• The oak-framed superstructure
• The four steel columns supporting the lantern and flat roof

Please analyse the current member sizes, connections, and bearing details, flag any overstressed elements, and propose practical modifications if required. A short calculation report (PDF) plus annotated sketches or mark-ups that I can pass to Building Control will be the expected deliverables. I can supply layout drawings and sections in DWG or PDF as soon as we start.
