Streamline Excel Consolidation Model

I currently run a quarterly consolidation workbook that produces subgroup and holding balances as well as the note disclosures for the audit file. The file grew from a handful of entities to several dozen and now the simplest refresh triggers long pauses or outright freezes. All source data—the statutory and IFRS trial balances—arrives as separate Excel sheets; after that I do manual FX conversion and elimination journals.

What I need in this engagement is threefold:

• Optimise performance so the file opens, saves and recalculates without hanging,
• Transform the two trial-balance feeds into a proper Excel data model (Power Query / Power Pivot or similar) that preserves the existing chart-of-accounts structure, and
• Document a clear, step-by-step routine for loading each new quarter’s data so the base reports regenerate automatically while leaving room for my manual elimination entries.

Acceptance will be based on:

• The consolidated balance and note schedules matching today’s results and account detail reports,
• File size and refresh times showing a material improvement, and
• A concise guide that lets me repeat the import process unaided next quarter.

Preferably no additional add-ins or version features are required.
