Job Post: Freelance UI/UX Designer (Airline Simulation Game Redesign)
Role: Freelance UI/UX Designer
Project: Interface Overhaul for a Multiplayer Airline Strategy/Simulation Game
Remote: 100% Remote
Project Type: Contract / Milestone-based (Accelerated 3-Week Project)
About the Project
We are looking for a talented freelance UI/UX Designer to completely rethink and redesign the visual identity and user experience of our multiplayer airline management simulation game.
The game is deep, strategic, and highly competitive, but the current interface suffers from data clutter ("spreadsheet fatigue") and complex user flows. We want to transform it into a sleek, modern, immersive tactical dashboard. Your goal is to make managing hundreds of aircraft, flight routes, and financial ledgers feel intuitive, satisfying, and visually stunning across both desktop and mobile screens.
What You Will Do
• Design for Cross-Platform Play: Create layouts that adapt seamlessly from a data-rich desktop browser to a clean, thumb-friendly mobile interface.
• Create a Unified Design System: Establish a cohesive visual language in your preferred tool (Figma, Adobe XD, etc.), including color tokens (for profit/loss, alerts, branding), typography, iconography, and reusable UI components.
• Redesign Complex Dashboards: Turn dense data tables, financial reports, and system alerts into clean, modular grid layouts that utilize progressive disclosure to avoid overwhelming the player.
• Wireframe & Map User Flows: Map out and optimize critical gameplay loops (e.g., buying an aircraft, configuring cabin seating, and launching a new route) to minimize friction and unnecessary clicks.
• Design Interactive Maps & Data Visualizations: Conceptualize the visual layout for a dynamic global flight-tracking map and easy-to-read charts for fuel trends and passenger demand curves.
• Deliver Developer-Ready Assets: Provide high-fidelity prototypes with clear states (hover, active, disabled) and layout specifications for our engineering team.
Project Timeline & Milestones
We are running this on an accelerated, fast-turnaround 3-week schedule:
• Milestone 1 (Week 1): Wireframes & Desktop Core Flows
• Wireframing the core gameplay loop (buying a plane, launching a route) and the main operations dashboard layout.
• Milestone 2 (Week 2): Design System & High-Fidelity UI
• Establishing the visual theme (colors, typography, cards) and delivering high-fidelity UI designs for the main desktop screens (Map, Fleet, Dashboard).
• Milestone 3 (Week 3): Mobile Adaptation & Developer Handoff
• Translating the finalized desktop screens into mobile layouts and packing the assets up for our development team.
Required Skills & Experience
• A strong portfolio showcasing complex dashboard designs, SaaS interfaces, data-heavy applications, or strategy/tycoon game UIs.
• Mastery of modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch).
• Proven experience building responsive web/mobile layouts or cross-platform applications.
• Deep understanding of information hierarchy, data density management, and responsive layouts.
• Ability to balance functional utility (high readability for hardcore players) with aesthetic appeal.
Nice-to-Haves
• A personal passion for simulation, tycoon, or management games (e.g., Airline Tycoon, Football Manager, Cities: Skylines).
• Basic understanding of frontend constraints (HTML/CSS) to ensure your designs are technically feasible to build.
How to Apply
If you are ready to build a world-class simulator UI on a fast track, please send over:
1. A brief introduction sharing why you're interested in a simulation game project.
2. A link to your portfolio, specifically highlighting responsive dashboard, data-dense, or game UI work.
3. Your standard hourly or milestone rates for this project, along with your immediate availability.
