For an upcoming industrial facility, a detailed diaphragm design is required for a composite system consisting of a steel metal deck with concrete fill. The foremost objective is load transfer efficiency, with the diaphragm expected to channel seismic loads safely into the lateral force–resisting elements.
The scope covers:
• Verifying diaphragm adequacy in accordance with AISC, ASCE 7 and relevant SDI provisions
• Sizing and spacing welded shear studs so the concrete slab and deck act compositely while meeting strength and serviceability criteria
• Providing connection details at collectors, chords and boundary elements, including any required drag struts
• Supplying clear plans that show deck orientation, shear stud layout, required pour stops and reinforcing steel at openings, penetrations or high-stress regions
• Delivering a concise calculation package (PDF and native files from ETABS or equivalent) plus editable CAD
Acceptance criteria
1. Calculations demonstrate code compliance with a minimum safety factor as dictated by governing standards.
2. Drawings are dimensionally coordinated and ready for peer-review submission without further drafting.
3. All assumptions, material properties and load combinations are explicitly listed in the calculation cover sheet.
Timely coordination responses during review are appreciated so the permit schedule is maintained.
