POP Display Design Engineer / SolidWorks Drafter
Potential Ongoing Work
We are looking for an experienced POP (Point-of-Purchase) Display Design Engineer / SolidWorks Drafter to join our freelance network and assist with ongoing display projects.
Our company specializes in 3D rendering, CAD drafting, fabrication drawings, and installation documentation for point-of-purchase and retail displays.
We are looking for someone with real-world experience designing displays for manufacturing—not simply someone who is proficient in CAD.
What You'll Be Doing
Depending on the project, you may be responsible for:
Developing 3D models in SolidWorks
Creating production and fabrication drawings
Developing sheet-metal, tube, wire, wood, acrylic, plastic and vacuum-formed components
Creating weldment and assembly drawings
Creating individual part drawings
Developing BOMs and material lists
Adding manufacturing dimensions, tolerances and notes
Creating overall assembly views
Developing installation and assembly instructions
Modifying existing display designs
Reviewing designs for manufacturability
Making revisions based on customer markups
Preparing drawings for both domestic and overseas manufacturing
Materials & Manufacturing Experience
Experience with the following is highly desirable:
Tubing
Sheet metal
Wire
Weldments
Laser cutting
Brake forming
CNC fabrication
Wood
Acrylic
Plastics
Vacuum forming
Graphics/signage
Fasteners and hardware
You should understand that a good POP display drawing needs to be designed around the actual manufacturing process, equipment, material availability, tolerances and assembly requirements.
Experience designing for import/overseas manufacturing is a major plus.
Software
Required:
SolidWorks
Preferred:
Experience creating SolidWorks weldments and assemblies
Experience with SolidWorks drawing templates
Ability to work with existing customer CAD standards and templates
We currently use SolidWorks 2025.
Types of Projects
Our projects include:
Floor-standing POP displays
Counter displays
Retail merchandising displays
Wire displays
Metal displays
Combination metal/wood displays
Product racks
Specialty retail fixtures
Promotional displays
Custom branded displays
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate has:
3+ years of relevant experience in POP displays, retail fixtures, store fixtures, or similar products
Strong SolidWorks skills
Strong understanding of fabrication and manufacturing
Ability to interpret sketches, renderings, PDFs and existing CAD files
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to create clean, organized production drawings
Ability to work independently
Ability to follow established drawing standards
Good communication skills
Ability to meet deadlines
POP display experience is strongly preferred. We are not looking for someone who only has general mechanical CAD experience.
How We Work
Projects can range from relatively simple estimate-level drawings to complete fabrication packages.
We may provide:
Hand sketches
Customer renderings
Existing CAD files
Dimensions
Photos
Physical sample information
Material specifications
Customer markups
You will be expected to take this information and develop a professional, manufacturable CAD/drawing package.
Project Types
We are interested in both one-time projects and long-term freelance relationships.
The right person may receive recurring work as our project volume increases.
We are particularly interested in freelancers who can provide additional capacity when our workload increases.
To Apply
Please provide:
A brief description of your experience with POP displays or retail fixtures
Your experience with SolidWorks
Examples of POP display fabrication/shop drawings
Examples of SolidWorks assemblies/weldments
Your hourly rate
Your typical availability
Your typical turnaround time for a moderately complex display
Please include actual examples of your drawings. Applications without relevant portfolio examples may not be considered.
Important
We are looking for someone who understands how POP displays are actually manufactured, not just how to model them in CAD.
If you have experience taking a concept or rendering and turning it into a complete, production-ready display drawing package, we'd like to hear from you.
