I need a quick, defensible sanity-check on a slowly rotating shaft that carries twelve discs and sits on two pillow-block bearings above a water tank. Once I send you the dimensioned drawing, material spec, disc weights, spacing, bearing positions and drive torque, please work out the following for two load cases—tank full and tank drained:
• mid-span deflection (location and magnitude)
• maximum bending stress
• resulting safety factor against yield (state the criterion you use)
Use whichever tool you prefer—ANSYS, SolidWorks, or any other package that produces reliable beam results. A short FEA is fine; a classical beam calculation that matches will give me extra confidence, so include enough detail (equations or screenshots) for me to replicate the numbers if I wish.
Deliverables (keep it to two pages):
1. A concise technical note in standard report style summarising assumptions, numbers, and a brief comment on which load case is worse.
2. One clear plot of bending moment, deflection or combined—whatever best shows the critical point—exported as PDF or PNG.
Send the native file only if it helps, otherwise the report is enough.
