As Senior Bodily Injury Claims Adjuster, you will handle all aspects of third and first-party injury claims resulting from personal auto losses, including the investigation, evaluation, and settlement of Medical Payments, Bodily Injury, and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury claims. You will be required to review policy documents and provide coverage analyses, determine settlement values, and manage litigation under moderate supervision using company guidelines.
What you’ll do

Make timely and appropriate contacts with necessary parties and take detailed recorded statements to determine liability and to obtain injury information

Determine and complete the appropriate level of investigation which includes but is not limited to reviewing policy contracts and communicating with underwriting for coverage determinations

Determine exposure, establish adequate initial reserves, and make timely adjustments to reserves as required

Promptly adjust personal lines auto claims across the United States while adhering to the company’s Best Practices and Fair Claim Handling Guidelines

Complete thorough coverage and liability investigations, assess the appropriate negligence percentage to the parties involved, and resolve disputes

Obtain and review necessary medical documentation in order to evaluate, negotiate and settle minor to severe bodily injury claims directly with claimants or their attorneys

Submit timely and accurate large loss reports to management

Collaborate with defense counsel to develop a litigation strategy and action plan to resolve claims that are in litigation

Analyze coverage and draft coverage letters

Consistently provide excellent customer service

Identify subrogation potential and pursue it when appropriate

Provide backup assistance to team members when necessary

Effectively manage workload and tasks to keep claims current and documented appropriately

This might describe you

Must be licensed and bondable

Experience handling moderate to severe Bodily Injury and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury claims as well as complex coverage issues and litigated files in a multi-state area

Effective and efficient use of computer applications including MS Office products

Excellent organizational skills and written and verbal communication skills

Strong problem-solving skills

Knowledgeable in insurance products and expertise

Must be able to motivate, lead others, and act as a mentor

Experience in multiple jurisdictions is desired

Must be detailed oriented

Must be able to maintain a high level of accuracy

Ability to work with highly confidential information

Ability to work independently

This position is open to U.S. remote work. However, team members who reside within 20 miles of the Traverse City headquarters will follow a hybrid schedule, working from the office three days per week.

Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
