About the Role
This is a senior backend engineering role at a bootstrapped fintech startup building credit-access products for underserved Americans. You'll own critical infrastructure end-to-end — from design through deployment — and play a meaningful part in shaping the technical direction of a small, high-ownership engineering team.
What You'll Do
Own backend systems and infrastructure end-to-end, designing, deploying, and scaling them on AWS.
Build performant, reliable APIs and services that power consumer financial products.
Design and implement scalable architectures using Node.js and TypeScript.
Make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
Ship production code frequently while maintaining high quality standards.
Establish technical patterns and best practices for the engineering team.
Collaborate with product engineers and stakeholders to drive meaningful outcomes.
Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery without compromising quality.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a significant backend focus.
Proven track record building and scaling production systems with Node.js and AWS.
Proficiency with TypeScript for backend development.
Experience designing and implementing scalable backend architectures and APIs.
Strong sense of ownership and accountability; comfortable working end-to-end from design through deployment and monitoring.
Ability to think critically about architectural decisions and their long-term implications.
Comfort thriving in ambiguity and making sound technical decisions with incomplete information.
High standards for code quality and system reliability.
Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development as a force multiplier — and the judgment to use it well.
Nice to have: Experience in fintech, financial services, or credit systems; familiarity with React/Next.js; experience establishing engineering best practices within a team.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $150,000 – $250,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
