Category: Sales & Marketing › Lead Generation / Business Development
Budget: Negotiable hourly + $150 commission per paying signup
Project Type: Ongoing / Part-time
About the Opportunity
GetGovWork (getgovwork.com) helps small trade contractors — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and more — find and win U.S. government contracts. The federal government is legally required to award billions of dollars per year to small businesses, but most contractors don't participate because the process is confusing. GetGovWork solves that: we find the contracts near them, explain them in plain English, and write the bid.
We're looking for a motivated closer to get paying customers on the platform. This is a ground-floor opportunity with a product that has real market pull, a clear value proposition, and a price point that's 3–5x cheaper than our nearest competitors.
The Product
What it does: Matches government contract opportunities to a contractor's trade, geography, and certifications — then generates a complete bid proposal in minutes
Who it's for: Small trade contractors (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, painting, flooring, etc.), typically 2–25 employees
Pricing: $250/month
Differentiators:
Trade-specific — not generic, built for the shop owner who's never done government work
$250/mo vs. $707–$5,000/mo for competitors
Free bid draft as an ongoing proof-of-value hook
Daily contract alerts, executive summaries in plain English, bid written in minutes
Your Commission
$150 per new paying customer you sign up (tracked via signup attribution)
Negotiable hourly rate for outreach time, prospecting, and follow-up
No cap — the more you close, the more you earn
Paying customer = someone who subscribes at $250/month; not a free trial
Who We're Looking For
An experienced B2B or B2SMB sales rep who can work independently
Comfortable calling and emailing small business owners (contractors, shop owners, tradespeople)
Persuasive but not pushy — the product sells itself when positioned correctly
Able to explain a simple value prop clearly: "We find the government jobs near you and write the bid. It's $250 a month."
Familiar with cold outreach (calls, email, LinkedIn, Facebook groups) and following up
Nice to have:
Experience selling to tradespeople, contractors, or blue-collar businesses
Background in SaaS sales, HR/payroll tools for small biz, or any tool sold to trades
Knowledge of government contracting (useful but absolutely not required)
What We'll Provide
Full product walkthrough and Q&A before you start
Sales talking points and objection handling guide
Access to the live platform to demo
Outreach lists and guidance on where to source leads (industry associations, Google Places, Facebook groups, LinkedIn)
Existing email templates that have been tested in our campaigns
The Market (Why This Works)
The U.S. federal government spent ~$774B on contracts in FY2024; $117B+ went to small businesses via set-asides
Federal law mandates 23%+ of eligible contracts go to small businesses — agencies are actively graded on this and motivated to award
Contracts in the $15K–$350K range are automatically reserved for small businesses by law — this is the exact range most trade contractors can execute
Most HVAC and trade shops have never heard of SAM.gov — this is a discovery sale, not a crowded market
First confirmed customer (Josh, Superior Heating & Air) won a government contract using GetGovWork. That's the story you're selling.
Pitch That Works
"Federal agencies in your area are required to give contracts to small businesses — and right now they're spending their year-end budgets. GetGovWork finds those jobs near you and writes the bid in minutes. It's $250 a month and the first contractor who shows up usually wins. Want to see what's available near you?"
What's Not Required
You don't need to understand government contracting law
You don't need to generate the bids — that's the platform's job
You don't need a large existing network — this is a cold outreach role
How to Apply
Please include in your application:
A brief description of a similar sales role you've done (product sold, who the buyers were, how you generated leads)
Your preferred outreach method (calls, email, social, or a mix)
Your proposed hourly rate
Any relevant experience selling to tradespeople, small businesses, or contractors
This is an ongoing engagement. Top performers will have the opportunity to expand scope, earn higher hourly rates, and grow with the product.
