Project Overview
We are seeking an experienced, native US English line editor and proofreader to polish and refine a 270-page Science Fiction novel. The book was originally written in Italian and has already been translated into English. We now need a professional editor to elevate the prose, ensure stylistic strength, correct localized phrasing, and optimize the terminology for the US publishing market.
Scope of Work
Line Editing & Prose Polish: Improve sentence flow, pacing, and vocabulary while keeping the author’s original voice intact.
Sci-Fi Terminology & World-Building: Refine genre-specific jargon, technological concepts, and dialogue to sound natural and immersive for American readers.
Grammar & Mechanics: Thorough proofreading for syntax, punctuation, spelling, and consistency.
US Market Adaptation: Ensure idioms, formatting, and conventions strictly match standard US English publication expectations.
Freelancer Requirements
Native US English speaker with verifiable experience editing fiction (preferably Science Fiction or Fantasy).
Strong portfolio of edited books (please provide titles or links to published work).
Proficiency in Microsoft Word Track Changes or Google Docs suggestion mode.
High attention to detail, consistency, and narrative tone.
Deliverables & Project Details
Length: Approx. 270 pages (around 70,000–80,000 words).
Deliverables: One file showing all tracked changes/comments and one clean, final edited manuscript ready for publication.
Trial Edit: Top candidates may be asked to perform a complimentary or paid 1-page sample edit to evaluate stylistic alignment.
