I need a full-stack web portal plus companion iOS and Android apps that let parents, school staff, bus drivers, and students follow every school run in real time. The platform must be multi-tenant so several schools—or even an entire district—can operate independently under one deployment while sharing the same codebase.
Tracking method
Each bus will broadcast its position from two sources at once: a hard-wired GPS device installed in the vehicle and the driver’s mobile phone. The system should reconcile both feeds automatically, using the phone as a fallback whenever the on-board unit drops signal.
Core workflow
• Staff define routes, stops, and calendars in the web portal.
• Drivers start a trip in their app; the platform begins streaming GPS data, showing accurate ETAs to every stop.
• Parents and students see the live bus icon, distance, and countdown timer. Push, SMS, or email alerts fire when the bus is nearing their stop, arrives, or departs.
• Optional student check-in/out (QR, NFC, or manual) logs who actually boarded and when, updating the parent’s timeline instantly.
• Administrators view analytics on punctuality, ridership, and driver behaviour, all exportable to CSV or via REST API.
Key deliverables
– Responsive web portal with role-based dashboards
– Native or cross-platform mobile apps for parents, drivers, and students
– Real-time map with ≤10-second refresh rate, fed by dual GPS sources
– Notification engine (push/SMS/email) configurable per user
– Multi-tenant administration layer (separate branding, data isolation per school)
– Secure REST/GraphQL API plus full source code and deployment docs
– Basic automated test suite and onboarding manual
Acceptance criteria
• Position accuracy within 15 m under normal GPS conditions.
• No single point of failure—if either GPS stream drops, the other maintains tracking.
• All data encrypted in transit and at rest.
• Apps pass Apple App Store and Google Play review.
Technology is flexible; frameworks like Node.js, Django, Firebase, Flutter, or React Native are all acceptable provided the final solution meets the above criteria and can scale to hundreds of buses concurrently.
