Registered Structural Engineer Required – Residential Property Assessment and Extension Design (Stonnington, VIC)

Job Description

I am seeking an experienced, registered structural engineer in Victoria to assess an existing residential property and develop engineering drawings and documentation for a proposed extension. The successful candidate must have previous experience working with Stonnington City Council and a strong understanding of Victorian building regulations and approval requirements.

Scope of Work

1. Structural Assessment – Removal of Three Load-Bearing Walls

* Inspect and assess three existing load-bearing walls proposed for removal.
* Determine the structural implications of removing these walls and identify suitable replacement structural elements, such as beams, columns or other support systems, if required.
* Provide structural calculations and engineering drawings/details for the proposed modifications.
* Specify any temporary support requirements during construction, where applicable.

2. Tree Impact Assessment – Tree Located Approximately 2 Metres from the Building

* Assess the potential impact of an existing tree located approximately 2 metres from the house on the building’s foundations and structural integrity.
* Inspect any visible cracking, foundation movement or other signs of potential tree-related damage.
* Provide a written assessment of the potential risks and recommended mitigation measures.
* Identify whether further investigation, such as an arborist assessment, geotechnical investigation or foundation inspection, is required.

3. Residential Extension – Engineering Design and Drawings

* Review the existing property and proposed extension requirements.
* Develop the necessary structural design and engineering drawings for the proposed extension.
* Provide structural calculations, construction details and specifications as required.
* Coordinate with the building designer or architect, where necessary.
* Prepare documentation suitable for submission to the relevant council or building surveyor, depending on the applicable approval pathway.

Mandatory Requirements

* Must be a suitably qualified and currently registered structural or civil engineer authorised to undertake the proposed work in Victoria.
* Must have demonstrable previous experience with residential structural assessments, load-bearing wall removal and extension design.
* Must have previous project experience involving Stonnington City Council, including familiarity with its planning and building approval processes.
* Must hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance.
* Must be able to provide examples of similar completed projects and relevant references.

Deliverables

* Site inspection and structural assessment report.
* Structural design calculations and drawings for the three wall removals.
* Written tree impact assessment and recommendations.
* Engineering drawings and supporting documentation for the proposed extension.
* Digital copies of all final reports, calculations and drawings in PDF format, with editable CAD files where agreed.
* Clarification of any additional investigations or specialist reports required before finalising the designs.
