WordPress Product Search Filters Based on Excel – Existing Website, No Redesign
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
We are looking for an experienced WordPress developer to update the product search and filtering system on an existing company website selling winemaking products.
All products, images, descriptions and product pages are already present on the website. We do not need a new website, a new navigation menu or a product upload from scratch.
The task is to replace the current product filters with three specific filters and configure the correct product results using the attached Excel file:

1. Required filters
The product search sidebar must contain only these three filter groups. The website labels must remain in Italian.
FAMIGLIA PRODOTTI — Product family
The supplied workbook currently includes:
Protezione uva e mosti; Nutrienti e attivanti; Enzimi; Scorze di lievito e detossificanti; Lieviti; Batteri malolattici; Tannini; Prodotti funzionali affinamento; Chiarificanti.
Use the approved family names and ordering. Any existing website families not covered by the workbook must be discussed with us before inclusion in the new filtering system. Do not delete existing categories or products from the website.
TIPOLOGIA VINO — Wine type
BIANCO — ROSATI — ROSSI — SPUMANTI
The “BIANCO” website option corresponds to the “BIANCHI” worksheet in the Excel file.
OBIETTIVO ENOLOGICO — Oenological objective
AROMATICO — FRESCO — FRUTTATO — MINERALE — STRUTTURATO — VARIETALE
These three groups must replace the old filtering controls. Do not add extra filters for manufacturer, grape type, product characteristics, application or product line.
2. How to read the Excel file
Please review all four worksheets, not only the first one: BIANCHI, ROSATI, ROSSI and SPUMANTI.
Each worksheet represents a wine type. Within each worksheet, column A identifies the product family, and columns B–G contain product names under the six oenological objectives.
Each product entry therefore represents a specific association:
Product family + Wine type + Oenological objective → Existing product
Family names are shown at the beginning of each block. Blank cells in the family column continue the current family until the next family heading. Empty product cells do not create an association, and repeated objective headings are not product names.
A product may appear in several columns or worksheets. These repeated entries represent multiple valid associations with the same existing product, not separate products to create.
3. Important: preserve the exact combinations
The filters must respect the specific combinations defined in the workbook.
A product’s oenological objectives may differ depending on the wine type. It is not sufficient to assign independent global “wine type” and “objective” tags if this creates combinations that are not present in the Excel file.
For example, if a product is listed for:
BIANCHI + AROMATICO
and:
SPUMANTI + VARIETALE
this must not automatically make it a match for BIANCHI + VARIETALE.
Please explain how your proposed implementation will preserve these relationships and avoid incorrect results.
4. Search behaviour
We would like three dropdowns, with one selection per filter and an “All” option for each.
Users must be able to use the filters individually or together. When multiple filters are selected, results must satisfy all selected criteria within a valid combination from the workbook.
For example:
Famiglia prodotti: LIEVITI
Tipologia vino: BIANCO
Obiettivo enologico: FRESCO
The results must show only the products listed under LIEVITI → FRESCO in the BIANCHI worksheet.
Products must appear only once in the results, even when they have multiple matching associations. Clicking a result must open its existing product page.
Please include a clear reset option and an appropriate “no products found” message when no approved combination matches. Do not substitute unrelated products.
5. Product matching and data validation
The workbook contains product names rather than website product IDs. You must match these names to the correct products already present in the website.
The scope includes both implementing the filters and configuring/importing the required product associations.
Before the final import, please flag any unclear names, possible spelling differences, suspected numbering errors or entries that cannot be matched confidently.
We will confirm any necessary corrections. Do not guess, create duplicate products or invent missing associations.
Existing products not covered by the workbook must not be deleted or assigned new criteria without our approval.
6. Keep the existing website design
This is not a redesign.
Keep the filters on the left and the product results on the right, preserving the current website style, including colors, typography, rounded controls, spacing and product-card appearance.
The existing header, Products navigation menu, product-line structure, product pages and unrelated website sections must remain unchanged.
The filtering interface must work correctly on both desktop and mobile.
7. Testing and handover
Create a backup before making changes and implement the work on a test/staging version first. Do not publish changes to the live website until we approve the result.
Check the results against all four worksheets, including combined selections, duplicate prevention and combinations that should return no results.
Please provide brief instructions explaining how we can maintain the product associations in the future.
