About Magic
For over 10 years, Magic has connected top remote talent with fast-growing businesses, backed by Y Combinator and Sequoia Capital, with thousands of remote workers worldwide.
Role Overview
Every Magic Executive Assistant starts as a candidate someone said "yes" to. In this seat, that someone is you.
You'll hunt down and qualify Latin American candidates (Mexico first) for Magic's Executive Assistant Training, judging them on English communication, experience, commitment, and proactiveness before anyone else spends a minute on them. You'll run the recruitment process hands-on: posting ads, reviewing resumes, interviewing, coaching the almost-ready, and endorsing the ready. The pace is fast, sometimes chaotic, and there isn't an SOP for every situation. You'll often be the one who figures it out.
You're measured on three things: Productivity (35%), Work Quality (35%), and Accountability (30%).
This is a full-time freelance engagement: 40 hours a week, exclusive to Magic.
Shift: 40 hours a week, day or night. You'll start on 5:30 PM to 2:30 AM CST (7:30 AM to 4:30 PM PHT) for your first two months, then move to 8 AM to 5 PM CST.
Key Responsibilities
Hunt Latin American candidates, Mexico especially, by posting ads across platforms and growing our LatAm pool
Screen resumes like a pro and spot who truly fits the requirements, not just who looks good on paper
Interview potential assistants: schedule the calls, run them, and sharpen your interviewing technique as you go
Coach applicants with constructive feedback, and coordinate follow-up sessions and re-recordings when someone's close
Endorse against weekly targets without lowering the bar, and get feedback back to candidates on time
Track every candidate accurately so the data can be trusted
Partner with other departments to understand what clients actually need
Qualifications Technical Requirements
Experience in recruitment, interviewing, or talent acquisition
Fluent Spanish and English, spoken and written. Exceptional English is non-negotiable
Living in Mexico (this role is open to Mexico-based candidates only for now)
Basic Google Workspace know-how (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Slides, Docs)
Available for 40 hours a week, day or night shift, on the schedule above
Comfortable working as an independent contractor, exclusive to Magic: you can't work for another company while engaged, due to NDA
Your own WFH setup and equipment (computer, reliable internet, headset). Magic doesn't provide equipment
Core skills: Communication Interpersonal Skills · High Energy Enthusiasm · Adaptability "PLOW" Mindset (plow through obstacles instead of waiting for perfect conditions)
Why You'll Be a Great Fit
You build rapport fast, give feedback that lands, and answer candidates with empathy and professionalism. You bring high energy to the fifteenth screening call of the day, because that's what separates people who thrive here from people who survive here. You pivot when business needs change and sort out problems without waiting for an SOP. You stay calm and professional with an irate candidate, a volume spike, or a deadline that moved up. You learn new systems on your own and take initiative instead of waiting for instructions.
Application Process
Send application → Take our Plow Test (English Assessment) → Initial Interview with HR Talent Team → Second Interview with Hiring Manager → Final Interview with our Head of People Product
Compensation Benefits
$8/hour · 40 hours a week · Paid weekly via Deel · Full-time freelance (independent contractor), exclusive to Magic · 100% remote, Mexico · Bring your own equipment · No employee benefits (this is a freelance engagement)
Why Magic?
We're ambitious, driven, and unapologetically the type to plow through obstacles instead of waiting for perfect conditions. Our work dynamic is genuinely different: friendly conversations, zero politics, and no hierarchy standing in your way. You can talk to anyone, on any team, about anything (yes, even the small stuff), because we respect each other's time and actually like working together. Y Combinator and Sequoia-backed, thousands of remote workers strong, and growing.
