The assignment is to take a narrative, match it with a sequence of realistic illustrations, and craft a fully-finished pictorial storybook using professional desktop-publishing software. All text, captions, and dialogue must blend seamlessly with the imagery, so strong skills in image setting and editing—colour correction, retouching, compositing, and precise placement—are essential.
I will supply the manuscript and any reference material already approved for the story. From there, the workflow should move through page planning, grid creation, typographic styling, and ultimately to a print-ready layout that keeps the visual storytelling front and centre. Adobe InDesign is preferred, though Affinity Publisher or QuarkXPress are equally acceptable if they achieve the same level of polish and press-ready accuracy. Image adjustments can be handled in Photoshop or an equivalent tool as long as layer integrity is maintained for future tweaks.
Key deliverables
• Fully packaged source files with linked artwork
• Print-ready PDF (CMYK, bleed and crop marks)
• Screen-optimised PDF for eBook distribution
• Style guide covering fonts, colours, and margin/grid specs
Acceptance criteria
• Consistent, realistic illustration style throughout the book
• Text and images aligned to the approved grid, free of overset text
• Colours within print gamut; no unintended RGB artefacts
• Final files pass pre-flight without errors and are ready for immediate upload to the printer or digital platform
Timelines and milestone checkpoints can be aligned with rough layout, first full draft, and final proof stages.
