Hello,
i recently upgraded my MAC to an OS that will no longer run Quicken 2007 desktop due to it being 32 bit. There is no modern financial software that functions like Quicken 2007. I want to create a financial software that will function like Quicken 2007 desktop. I believe this can be done with AI. A web interface is fine, but a signed software would be better. I have tried this myself in Claude, and I was able to get a working model. I am not sure I trust it with my financial data though. There are just some key features that I need to re-create. I do not need any of the online functions. I need import existing data file, registers, reporting, quickmath for sales tax, reports, quickfill and categories. Please advise. Thank you, Michael
I need a ground-up rebuild of Quicken 2007 that runs natively as a 64-bit application on macOS 13 (Ventura) and above. The goal is to keep the familiar workflows while letting the interface adopt modern Cocoa elements—think refreshed visuals and accessibility improvements without losing the feel of the original.
Functionality to replicate includes bill payment management, full-featured registers, detailed reporting, QuickMath for on-the-fly sales-tax calculations, Quickfill autocomplete, and robust category handling. Bill payment, reporting, and Quickfill are mission-critical; everything else may be staged as long as those three work flawlessly from the first stable build.
A mix of legacy and modern UI is acceptable, provided long-time Quicken users can navigate instinctively. I’ll supply a sample .QDF file and interface screenshots to guide development. Seamless import of existing data—or an equally simple migration path—must be built in so no history is lost.
Deliverables
• Notarised universal-binary macOS 13+ app reproducing the features above, running without emulation or Rosetta
• Full source code with build instructions for future OS versions
• Brief user guide highlighting any UI differences from Quicken 2007
• Two milestones: alpha (registers & Quickfill) and beta (reporting & bill pay) for hands-on testing
Acceptance Criteria
The final build must open my sample file, let me enter a split transaction using QuickMath, schedule a payment, and generate the classic Spending by Category report with totals matching the original software.
Experience porting Carbon apps or building finance software in Swift/Objective-C/Cocoa will be a strong plus.
