QuickBooks Pro for Telecommunications Contractor

We are a growing telecommunications construction contractor specializing in cell tower construction and upgrades. We currently operate multiple field crews and are looking for an experienced QuickBooks Enterprise professional to help us improve and streamline our job-costing system.

We are specifically looking for someone with strong construction or project-based accounting experience. This is not simply a bookkeeping/data-entry position.

Our goal is to be able to look at each individual project/site and accurately determine our true profitability.

We would like help with:

Reviewing our existing QuickBooks Enterprise setup and identifying areas that need improvement
Setting up or improving job costing by customer/project/site
Properly allocating employee labor to individual jobs
Incorporating payroll taxes and labor burden into job costs
Properly tracking per diem, hotels, airfare, fuel, rental equipment, materials, subcontractors, and other direct job expenses
Determining the best way to integrate or allocate payroll information from ADP
Tracking original contract/PO amounts and change orders
Creating estimated vs. actual job-cost reports
Creating job profitability and gross-margin reports
Developing a consistent process for coding expenses and receipts to individual jobs
Reviewing our chart of accounts, items, classes, and other QuickBooks structures as they relate to job costing
Cleaning up existing job-costing issues where necessary
Creating a simple written workflow/SOP our team can follow going forward
Training our team on maintaining the system after implementation

Our ideal end result is a dashboard/report where we can quickly see, for every project:

Revenue
Change Orders

Payroll Burden
Per Diem
Hotels/Travel
Equipment Rentals
Materials
Fuel
Subcontractors
Other Direct Costs
Total Job Cost
Gross Profit
Gross Margin %

We would also like the ability to analyze profitability across customers, crews, markets, and types of work where practical.

Requirements:

Significant QuickBooks Enterprise experience
Strong job-costing experience
Construction, telecom, specialty contractor, or similar project-based accounting experience
Experience allocating payroll/labor to individual jobs
Ability to both implement the system and explain why it should be structured that way
Comfortable reviewing an existing QuickBooks environment and cleaning up/improving it rather than simply starting from scratch

Experience with ADP payroll is a major plus.
