Professional Proofreader Needed for Completed Sci-Fi/Thriller Novel
Project Description
I am seeking an experienced fiction proofreader for my completed novel. It's a science-fiction/conspiracy thriller that is now in its final stage before formatting and publication.
The manuscript has already gone through extensive editing and a complete chapter-by-chapter polish. I am not looking for a rewrite, developmental edit, or major stylistic changes. I am looking for a meticulous final proofread to catch errors that may remain before the book is formatted for print and eBook publication.
The proofreader should review the complete manuscript for:
* Spelling and typographical errors
* Grammar and punctuation
* Missing, duplicated, or incorrect words
* Incorrect quotation marks or dialogue punctuation
* Capitalization and hyphenation inconsistencies
* Awkward or clearly incorrect sentence construction
* Minor inconsistencies in terminology, names, dates, and formatting
* Repeated words or accidental repetition
* Any obvious continuity errors noticed during the proofread
Because this is fiction, I want the author's voice, dialogue, pacing, and intentional stylistic choices preserved. Please do not substantially rewrite passages simply based on personal style preference.
The novel contains military, intelligence, aerospace, government, and lunar/spaceflight terminology, so experience proofreading science fiction, thrillers, military fiction, or technically detailed novels would be a plus.
Delivered Product—
I would prefer the manuscript returned as a Microsoft Word document using Track Changes, so I can review and approve individual corrections. Comments may be used to flag anything that requires my judgment rather than making a substantive change without explanation.
When Applying—
Please include:
1. Your experience proofreading full-length fiction manuscripts.
2. Examples of published novels or similar projects you have proofread, if available.
3. Your estimated turnaround time.
4. Your price for proofreading the complete manuscript.
5. Whether you use Microsoft Word Track Changes.
6. A brief explanation of how you distinguish proofreading from copyediting or rewriting.
I may ask shortlisted candidates to proofread a short sample from the manuscript before selecting the proofreader.
I am looking for someone who is **extremely detail-oriented** and understands that this is the final quality-control pass before publication.
