I am looking for an experienced book formatter/typesetter to professionally format and typeset my novel for both print and digital publication.
Manuscript and Typography: DOCX
The book will use EB Garamond as its primary typeface. I have already formatted portions of the manuscript using different weights, including regular, medium, semi-bold, and bold, where I intended certain text to stand out. I will provide the manuscript files and relevant references for you to work from. One important requirement is that the typography should remain clean and consistent throughout the book.
Look after straight apostrophes, curly apostrophes, commas.when you edit.(punctuation styling.)
Please also avoid using manual spaces, repeated spacebar characters, manual line breaks, or repeated Enter/Return presses to achieve formatting. The document should be formatted properly using styles, paragraph settings, spacing, indents, page settings, and other appropriate typesetting methods rather than manual character or paragraph manipulation.
Paperback Layout Requirements
The primary priority is the 5.5 × 8.5 inch paperback edition.
The layout should be professionally typeset for comfortable long-form reading, including:
- Appropriate font size for extended reading
- Professional line spacing and paragraph spacing
- Proper paragraph indentation
- Justification and appropriate hyphenation
- Headers and footers where appropriate
- Correct margins and inner/outer page formatting
- Professional page numbering
- Consistent chapter openings
- Consistent treatment of scenes and section breaks
- Clear typography and visual hierarchy
- Professional novel-style typesetting
- Consistent formatting throughout the entire manuscript
The final layout should feel like a professionally published novel rather than simply a Word document that has been converted to PDF.
Title Page and Front Matter
I would also like the title page and front matter to be designed thoughtfully.
Rather than simply placing the text on a page, I want the opening pages to feel elegant, balanced, and consistent with the identity and tone of the novel.
The overall presentation should be understated, professional, and appropriate for a traditionally published-style book.
## Deliverables
Ultimately, I will need the following:
1. 5.5 × 8.5 inch paperback-ready PDF
2. Editable DOC/DOCX manuscript
3. Reflowable EPUB
Quality Expectations
Please pay particular attention to:
- Typographic consistency
- Clean paragraph and character styling
- Consistent chapter formatting
- Proper page flow
- Avoiding awkward page breaks
- Avoiding widows and orphans where possible
- Balanced and readable pages
- Consistent spacing throughout
- Correct use of fonts and font weights
- Professional print-book conventions
- Overall visual polish
I am looking for a result that feels genuinely professional and publication-ready.
Before Accepting the Project
If you are comfortable with everything described above, please let me know before I award/select you for the project. If you have any questions, concerns, or believe there is anything that needs clarification, please feel free to ask before we begin.
I would rather clarify all requirements at this stage so that once the project begins, we can work smoothly and focus on achieving a genuinely professional final book.
