Professional Coffee Table Book Designer / Editorial Book Designer – 100–130 Pages
We are looking for an experienced and highly creative Coffee Table Book Designer / Editorial Book Designer to design a premium-quality book documenting the journey and stories of college alumni.
The book will combine memories and stories from college life with the alumni's present-day journeys, achievements, experiences, and current stories.
The final book should feel like a professionally published, premium coffee-table book rather than a standard yearbook or simple photo album.
PROJECT SCOPE
• Approx. 100–130 pages
• Content will include:
* Alumni stories and personal journeys
* College memories and experiences
* Current professional/personal stories
* Photographs from college days
* Current photographs of alumni
* Captions, quotes and supporting text
* Archival photographs and other visual material
We will provide the written content, photographs and other relevant material.
We will also provide an older college/alumni book as a reference. The reference will help communicate the overall style, quality and type of book we are looking for.
The designer should use the reference as inspiration and develop a polished, professional and cohesive design for the new book.
WHAT WE NEED
We are looking for someone who can handle the complete visual design and layout of the book, including:
• Overall book concept and visual direction
• Cover design
• Table of contents and introductory pages
• Section/chapter layouts
• Alumni profile/story layouts
• Creative use of photographs
• Typography and font selection
• Page composition and visual hierarchy
• Pull quotes and highlighted memories
• Captions and supporting elements
• Consistent design system throughout the book
• Creative transitions between sections
• Professional handling of old and new photographs
• Print-ready final files
• Final PDF suitable for professional printing
DESIGN EXPECTATIONS
The book should feel:
Elegant • Premium • Emotional • Contemporary • Editorial • Timeless
We want the designer to bring their own creative thinking to the project while taking the provided reference book into consideration.
We are NOT looking for a basic Canva/Word template or repetitive page layouts. The book should have visual variety while maintaining a strong and consistent overall identity.
The designer should understand how to balance:
Photography + Storytelling + Typography + White Space + Visual Hierarchy
IDEAL FREELANCER
Please apply only if you have strong experience in:
• Coffee-table books
• Alumni / institutional books
• Yearbooks
• Biography / memoir books
• Editorial publications
• Photo-heavy books
• Premium print publications
• Adobe InDesign / Photoshop / Illustrator or equivalent professional tools
IMPORTANT
Please share 3–5 relevant examples of books you have designed, preferably:
1. Coffee-table books
2. Alumni / college books
3. Photo-heavy editorial books
4. Large-format books
5. Projects with 100+ pages
We are particularly interested in seeing complete book projects, not just individual cover designs or a few sample pages.
DELIVERABLES
The selected designer will be expected to provide:
• Initial design concept
• Cover design
• Sample pages for approval
• Complete 100–130 page book layout
• Final print-ready PDF
• Editable source files, preferably Adobe InDesign package
• Linked images, fonts and other required assets
• Revisions based on feedback
WORKFLOW
We would prefer to work in stages:
Stage 1: Review the reference book and understand the design direction
Stage 2: Develop the initial concept and visual direction
Stage 3: Create the cover and 5–10 sample pages
Stage 4: Review and approve the design language
Stage 5: Complete the full 100–130 page book layout
Stage 6: Final corrections, proofreading adjustments and print-ready files
We will provide the content and photographs progressively.
WHEN APPLYING
Please include:
1. Your portfolio
2. 3–5 similar book projects
3. Your experience with 100+ page books
4. Software you use
5. Estimated timeline for a 100–130 page project
6. Your total project quotation
7. What is included in your quotation
8. Number of revision rounds included
9. Whether you provide editable source files
Please do not submit a generic proposal. Tell us specifically about your experience designing long-form, photo-heavy books.
