Polish My Fantasy Prologue

I have a completed prologue for my fantasy novel written in a first-person voice. The bones are solid, but the language still feels a little clunky in places and some transitions don’t glide the way I’d like. I will share both the text and a short synopsis so you know exactly where the story is heading.

Your brief is simple: tighten the prose, smooth the flow, and heighten readability without tampering with any existing capitalisation, the names of INSTITUTIONS, or my characters. Tone, perspective, and overall voice must remain unmistakably first-person and distinctly mine—just sharper.
