Project – the aim you’ll have
We are looking for a Go Developer to help build a private cloud platform for a Dutch managed services provider working with public-sector customers in Western Europe.
The client delivers both private and public cloud as a managed service, and this platform is their own private cloud offering: built and run in Go on Kubernetes. Your work covers new services and the Kubernetes operators that manage the platform, as well as migrating existing workloads onto it and maintaining it once it is live - new development runs alongside migration and run-phase work, not after it.
Go is a relatively new direction here. The team's engineering background is mainly Python, and the move to Go is still taking shape. That is the opportunity in this role: what you write early on becomes the reference for what comes after, and you have a say in how the platform's Go codebase takes shape instead of inheriting decisions made years ago.
You join a mixed team of 6+ engineers split between Poland and the Netherlands, working as one team rather than as a vendor and a client side. English is the working language, used daily in design discussions, code review and documentation.
The role is fully remote from Poland, with no on-call duty.
Role – how you’ll contribute
Design, develop, test and deploy back-end services in Go for the private cloud platform
Write and maintain Kubernetes operators and controllers in Go
Test, debug and improve existing infrastructure applications
Take part in migrating existing workloads onto the new platform
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitLab for the services you own
Work with architects, functional designers and other specialists on system and application design
Review code, write technical documentation and share knowledge within the team
Expectations – the experience you need
Min. 4 years of commercial back-end development, including min. 2 years building production services in Go
Go concurrency (goroutines, channels, context, sync), the standard library, and building REST and gRPC services
Building CI/CD pipelines in GitLab and working across the full delivery lifecycle
Writing tests in Go with the standard testing package and Testify or Ginkgo
Building and running containerised applications on Linux, including debugging services, reading logs and troubleshooting basic networking on hosts
English at B2 or higher - the language of the project, used daily with Dutch colleagues in design discussions, code review and documentation
Additional skills – the edge you have
Kubernetes operators or controllers written in Go - a core part of this role, so experience here puts you ahead from week one
Python, incl. Pytest - the team's main language so far, and part of the tooling and testing stays in it
Robot Framework - used for acceptance testing alongside the Go test suites
Helm, Kustomize and GitOps - the platform is deployed declaratively, so these speed up your first weeks
HashiCorp Vault and Terraform - for secrets management and infrastructure provisioning on the platform
CKA or CKAD - not required, but it maps directly onto the Kubernetes work here
What we offer:
Flexible and remote cooperation options
International projects with leading global clients
Travels related to international projects
Non-corporate atmosphere
Access* to language classes
Access* to knowledge-sharing initiatives
Access* to private healthcare and life insurance
Access* to multisport card
*The availability and terms of individual benefits may vary depending on the chosen form of cooperation.
Software Mind develops solutions that make an impact for companies around the globe. Tech giants & unicorns, transformative projects, emerging technologies and limitless opportunities – these are a few words that describe an average day for us. Building cross-functional engineering teams that take ownership and crave more means we’re always on the lookout for talented people who bring passion and creativity to every project.
