# CFD Analysis of a Miniature F1 Model Car

## Category

Computational Fluid Dynamics / Aerodynamics / Motorsport Engineering

## Project Overview

I am working on a miniature CO₂-powered F1 model car and already have the CAD model/design completed. I am looking for an experienced CFD/aerodynamics engineer to analyse the car and provide clear, professional results that I can use to evaluate and improve its aerodynamic performance. I am looking for CFD analysis on 2 cars on Ansys Fluidd.

The main objective is to understand how efficiently air flows around the car and identify areas where the aerodynamic design can be improved.

## Scope of Work

### 1. CFD Setup & Simulation

* Import and prepare my existing CAD model for CFD analysis
* Set up an appropriate external aerodynamic flow simulation
* Use realistic boundary conditions for a small racing car
* Perform mesh refinement where necessary around wings, wheels, body surfaces and other important aerodynamic features
* Ensure the simulation produces reliable and interpretable results

### 2. Key Aerodynamic Results

I specifically need:

* **Total aerodynamic drag force**
* **Total lift/downforce force**
* **Drag coefficient (Cd)**
* **Lift coefficient (Cl)**
* If available, **lift-to-drag ratio (L/D)**
* Air velocity and pressure distribution around the car

Results should be presented clearly with the relevant units and simulation conditions, including the assumed vehicle speed.

### 3. Airflow Visualisations & Diagrams

I need professional CFD diagrams showing how air moves around different areas of the car, including:

* Front wing
* Nose/front section
* Side pods/body
* Wheels and wheel support structures
* Underbody
* Rear wing
* Rear section

Preferred visualisations include:

* Velocity streamlines
* Pressure contour maps
* Velocity contour maps
* Flow separation/turbulence areas
* Wake behind the car
* Airflow around the front and rear wings
* Any areas causing significant aerodynamic losses

The diagrams should clearly demonstrate **how the air is passing through and around the car and how aerodynamically efficient the design is**.

### 4. Aerodynamic Efficiency Analysis

Please provide a short engineering analysis explaining:

* Where most of the drag is being generated
* Where lift/downforce is being generated
* Which components contribute most significantly to drag
* Any areas of flow separation or inefficient airflow
* Whether the wings are functioning effectively
* How the car's overall aerodynamic efficiency could be improved

### 5. Design Recommendations

Based on the CFD results, I would like practical recommendations for improving the design, such as:

* Wing geometry
* Wing angle/position
* Body shaping
* Wheel airflow management
* Underbody airflow
* Reducing unnecessary drag
* Improving the drag/downforce balance

## Deliverables

I would like the following final deliverables:

1. **Drag force (N)**
2. **Lift/downforce force (N)**
3. **Drag coefficient (Cd)**
4. **Lift coefficient (Cl)**
5. **Lift-to-drag ratio**, if available
6. **Velocity/airflow streamlines**
7. **Pressure contour diagrams**
8. **Velocity contour diagrams**
9. **Wake/flow separation visualisations**
10. **Component-level aerodynamic analysis**
11. **Overall aerodynamic efficiency assessment**
12. **Clear recommendations for design improvements**
13. CFD images/diagrams in high resolution suitable for inclusion in an engineering portfolio/presentation
14. CFD simulation files/results where possible

## Important

I am **not looking for someone to redesign or CAD-model the car**. The CAD model is already available.

The primary requirement is **CFD simulation and aerodynamic analysis**.

I want the final results to be technically credible but also clearly presented so that I can use the diagrams and findings in my project.

## Information I Can Provide

* Completed Fusion 360 CAD model
* Car dimensions
* Current car specifications
* Technical regulations
* Target/expected operating speed
* Previous design versions for comparison, if required

## Ideal Freelancer

* Strong experience with CFD and external aerodynamics
* Motorsport/F1/aerodynamic experience preferred
* Experience analysing small-scale racing vehicles is an advantage
* Proficiency with ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS Discovery, SimScale, Autodesk CFD, OpenFOAM or equivalent
* Able to produce professional CFD visualisations
* Able to explain CFD results clearly
* Understanding of drag, lift/downforce, Cd, Cl, pressure distribution and flow separation

## Proposal Requirements

Please include:

1. Examples of previous CFD/aerodynamic work
2. CFD software you would use
3. Your fixed-price quotation
4. Estimated turnaround time
5. Number of CFD simulations/iterations included
6. Confirmation that you can provide high-resolution CFD diagrams and numerical results
7. Briefly explain how you would approach analysing a small F1 model car

The priority is **accurate CFD results, clear aerodynamic diagrams, and useful engineering recommendations**, rather than CAD modelling.
