About W4Helix
W4Helix is an independent advisory firm. We help organizations understand how their people actually work with AI and what it is worth to the business. We sell no software, licences or training, so our findings have to stand on evidence alone.

We are interviewing prospective freelancers for a long-term contract role. You will build the measurement and analysis behind our client work. You will not need to speak with clients.

What you will do
- Design questionnaires and assessments that are valid, reliable and short enough that people finish them
- Plan samples and produce results with honest margins of error
- Clean and combine data from several sources, including exports from business software
- Build repeatable analysis pipelines, including AI-assisted analysis of open-text responses, and prove they are accurate
- Turn results into clear tables and charts a non-technical executive can read in two minutes
- Document every step so another analyst could reproduce your results exactly

Critical skills
- Survey methodology or psychometrics: scale design, reliability and validity testing; item response theory or Rasch modelling a strong plus
- Applied statistics: sampling design, confidence intervals, estimating from a sample to a whole population
- Python or R for data cleaning, analysis and automation (pandas, tidyverse or similar)
- Hands-on experience using large language models to code or classify text, and checking that work against human judgment
- Comfortable with messy real-world data from spreadsheets and business-software exports
- Clear written English for reports and documentation

The person we want
- Rigorous and sceptical: you check your own numbers before anyone else does
- Honest about uncertainty: you would rather report a range than a flattering single number
- Discreet: you handle confidential organizational data with care, always
- Independent and organized: you work well remotely and meet agreed deadlines
- Able to overlap a few hours a week with US Eastern time for a short call

Background that fits
- A master's or doctorate in statistics, psychometrics, education research, psychology, economics, public policy or a related field; or equivalent professional experience
- Research or analytics work in education, workforce, HR or organizational settings is a plus

Practical details
- Contract, remote; paid per project or hourly, agreed in advance
- Confidentiality agreement required before any client or method materials are shared
- Paid trial first: a small fixed-price task using made-up data
- Start: as client engagements are confirmed

To apply, answer:
1. Describe one survey or assessment you designed or validated. How did you show it was reliable, and what did you change as a result?
2. Describe a time you used an AI model to classify or code text. How did you check its accuracy, and what did you find?
3. A client says "our staff save 5 hours a week." What would you want to know before you believed it?
Begin your application with the word "Reliable" so we know you read to the end.
