Manchester-Based Freelance Video Editor - Project Basis

I’m looking for a freelance video editor based in Greater Manchester to work with me on a number of projects I currently have in hand.

Please only apply if you are genuinely based in Greater Manchester. I’m deliberately looking for someone local because I want the option of meeting and working together in person rather than doing everything remotely.

This is not a full-time job. I’m looking to start on a project-by-project basis, and if we work well together there is the potential for regular ongoing work.

The work I produce is mainly business, interview, event and personal brand content. Videos may be used across LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts and websites.

I’m looking for somebody who understands more than simply cutting clips together. Storytelling is important. I will often have a clear idea of the message and direction I want, and sometimes I will want to sit together, go through the footage and work out how we turn it into the strongest possible piece.

You should be comfortable with multi-camera editing, organising footage, syncing and improving audio, basic colour correction/grading, selecting and placing music, titles, captions and graphics, and producing different versions and formats for different platforms.

You also need to be technically comfortable handling video files. That includes transferring and organising large files, reducing file sizes when necessary without unnecessarily damaging quality, creating smaller working files or proxies, understanding resolution, codecs, frame rates, bitrates and export settings, and knowing how to export appropriately for different platforms.

Good file management is important to me. Projects, footage, music, graphics and final exports need to be organised and named properly so we can easily return to a project later.

You should also understand the basics of music and stock licensing and know the difference between simply finding something online and having the correct rights to use it commercially.

I don’t expect somebody to know absolutely everything. I would rather find somebody who is technically savvy, resourceful, hands-on and keen to learn. Video production and editing are changing quickly, particularly with AI and new creative tools, so I want somebody who is interested in learning and experimenting with new technology rather than only working in the way they have always worked.

If you also have videography or photography experience, that would be a bonus, but it is not essential. In particular, I would be interested to see work involving interviews, podcasts, business events, conferences, exhibitions, corporate filming or social media content.

The most important part of your application is your portfolio.

Please don’t send me a long generic proposal telling me that you are interested in the project. I would much rather spend that time looking at your actual work.

Please send me 3-5 examples of videos that you personally edited. If possible, show me different types of work rather than five examples of exactly the same thing.

I would particularly like to see an interview, business, corporate or event video and at least one piece of short-form/social media content.

For each example, briefly tell me what you personally did. For example, whether you edited it, filmed it, selected the music, worked on the sound, colour, graphics or created the complete piece.

Please also tell me which editing software you normally use, where in Greater Manchester you are based, and your normal project rate or day rate.

If you also film or do photography, please include a few examples of that work separately.

I already have projects ready to work on, so I’m not advertising something that may happen several months from now. I’m looking to find the right person and start working together.
