Magazine, Advertising & Marketing Collateral Designer

I am seeking a talented graphic designer for an established community magazine published in Orange County, Virginia. This is potentially an ongoing freelance relationship rather than a single design project.

The designer will help create:

* Attractive, highly readable magazine layouts
* Professional advertisements for local businesses
* Covers, feature-story spreads and recurring departments
* Marketing collateral for the publication and its programs
* Digital and print promotional materials as needed

The magazine uses human-centered storytelling to help residents better understand the people, businesses, organizations and issues shaping their community. The overall design should feel polished, modern, welcoming and credible while retaining the warmth and personality of a local publication.

I also need someone who understands that effective advertisement design involves more than arranging a logo, photograph and contact information on a page. Advertisements should have strong visual hierarchy, clear messaging and an effective call to action while remaining consistent with each advertiser’s brand.

The ideal designer will:

* Have experience with magazine, editorial or publication design
* Understand print production, typography and visual hierarchy
* Be able to create advertisements and marketing collateral
* Work well within established deadlines and production schedules
* Communicate clearly and respond well to direct, constructive feedback
* Bring creative ideas while also respecting the publication’s editorial identity
* Be dependable, organized and interested in growing with the publication

Please provide a portfolio containing magazine layouts, advertisements or comparable print-design work. Experience with community publications is helpful but not required. Strong editorial judgment, professional-quality design and reliable communication are more important.
