Sustainability Thought Leadership Content Strategist & Creator
About the Requirement
I am looking for an experienced freelancer/content strategist who can help me build my personal brand on LinkedIn around Sustainability, Climate & ESG Consulting.
The objective is not simply to write LinkedIn posts. I am looking for someone who can understand my work, identify interesting stories and insights from our projects, follow sustainability trends, and convert those insights into engaging LinkedIn content in different formats.
The ideal person should be able to work closely with me and my team on a recurring basis.
Key Responsibilities
1. Weekly Content Discovery
* Conduct a weekly 30–60 minute discussion with me/my team.
* Understand what we have worked on during the week, including projects, client challenges, findings, lessons learned and interesting observations.
* Identify stories and insights that can be converted into thought-leadership content.
* Ask the right questions to uncover interesting angles that may not be immediately obvious.
2. Sustainability & Industry Research
Regularly research and identify relevant topics around:
* Carbon Footprint & GHG Accounting
* Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions
* Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
* Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)
* ESG
* Net Zero & Decarbonisation
* Sustainability reporting
* Supply-chain sustainability
* Climate-related regulations and standards
* Sustainable agriculture/manufacturing
* Emerging sustainability technologies and methodologies
The freelancer should also monitor current sustainability news, reports, studies, corporate announcements and LinkedIn trends and identify opportunities for relevant content.
3. Content Strategy & Storytelling
For every potential topic, I expect the freelancer to think beyond simply presenting information.
The content should answer questions such as:
* Why should people care?
* What is surprising or counterintuitive?
* What have we learned from real-world consulting experience?
* What is the practical implication for businesses?
* What is the common misconception?
* What is my/our point of view?
The goal is to build my positioning as someone who has real sustainability consulting experience and practical insights, rather than creating generic sustainability content.
4. Content Creation
The freelancer should be able to convert ideas into different formats, including:
* LinkedIn text posts
* Story-driven thought-leadership posts
* Educational posts
* LinkedIn carousels
* Infographics
* Short videos
* Simple animated/explainer videos
* Visual storytelling
For example, one project insight could potentially become:
Consulting experience → LinkedIn post → Carousel → Short animation/video
5. Content Calendar
Develop and maintain a content calendar covering a mix of:
* Experience-based content
* Educational content
* Industry/trend commentary
* Sustainability news
* Personal perspectives
* Practical business insights
* Case-study-style stories
* Questions/polls designed to encourage discussion
I am more interested in quality, originality and relevance than simply producing a high volume of posts.
Ideal Candidate
You would be a strong fit if you have:
* Proven experience creating LinkedIn thought-leadership content
* Strong storytelling and content strategy skills
* Experience working with founders, consultants, executives or subject-matter experts
* Good understanding of sustainability/ESG/climate topics
* Ability to understand technical concepts and simplify them without losing accuracy
* Strong research skills
* Excellent written English
* Ability to create or coordinate carousels and video/animation content
* Ability to independently identify interesting content opportunities
* Comfort working directly with a subject-matter expert and extracting stories from conversations
Experience in sustainability consulting, ESG consulting, climate, carbon accounting, LCA, energy or environmental consulting would be a significant advantage.
Important
I am not looking for a generic AI content writer who takes a topic and produces a standard LinkedIn post.
I am looking for someone who can become a long-term content partner, understand my professional work and point of view, and help transform our real-world experience into distinctive thought leadership.
AI tools can absolutely be used as part of the workflow, but the final content must feel human, insightful, original and authentic.
Expected Engagement
Initially, I would like to start with a trial engagement and, if the collaboration works well, continue on a monthly basis.
The expected workflow would involve:
Weekly discussion → Research → Content ideas → Approval → Content creation → Review → Design/animation → Publishing
Please share:
1. Your relevant experience
2. Examples of LinkedIn content you have created
3. Examples of carousels/videos/animations, if available
4. Your experience with sustainability/ESG/climate content
5. Your proposed pricing model
6. Your availability for a weekly discussion
⸻
Evaluation Task
As part of the application, please complete the following short task.
Scenario
Imagine that you have just spoken to a sustainability consultant who tells you:
“We recently worked on an LCA for an agricultural product. Before starting the analysis, we expected processing and transportation to be major contributors to the carbon footprint. But when we looked at the results, agricultural inputs and on-farm activities were much more significant than expected. It also became clear that the assumptions and quality of primary data from the farm can substantially influence the final result.”
Your Task
Based only on the above information, please provide:
1. Three different LinkedIn content ideas
Each should have a different angle. For example:
* A strong personal/experience-based story
* An educational/industry insight
* A controversial or thought-provoking perspective
2. Write ONE complete LinkedIn post
Turn your strongest idea into a LinkedIn post of approximately 250–400 words.
The post should:
* Have a strong opening/hook
* Tell a story rather than simply explain LCA
* Be easy for a non-technical business audience to understand
* Demonstrate expertise without sounding overly academic
* Include a clear insight or takeaway
* Sound like it was written by a sustainability consultant with real project experience
* Avoid generic AI-style phrases and clichés
3. Carousel concept
Convert the same story into a 6–8 slide LinkedIn carousel.
Provide:
* Slide title
* Key message for each slide
* Suggested visual/graphic for each slide
4. Short video concept
Give a 30–60 second video/animation concept, including:
* Opening hook
* Story/sequence
* Key visual ideas
* Closing message
What I will evaluate
I will primarily evaluate:
* Storytelling ability
* Ability to find an interesting angle from limited information
* Quality of the hook
* Understanding of the target audience
* Ability to simplify technical sustainability concepts
* Originality of ideas
* Ability to create a strong point of view
* Quality and clarity of writing
* Ability to translate one idea into multiple content formats
Please do not spend excessive time on graphic design for this test. I am primarily evaluating your thinking, storytelling and content-generation skills.
If you believe you are the right person for this role, please submit your proposal along with your response to the above task.
