Laravel / PHP Developer – 3-Day Short-Term Task

Our production Laravel application needs a focused, three-day sprint to boost performance. I will give you direct access to the existing repo and staging server; the codebase is mature but showing slowdowns under load. Your first task is to profile the application, pinpoint the bottlenecks, and then dive straight into the code to resolve them. While the immediate objective is performance optimisation, you will inevitably touch on bug fixes and a few small feature tweaks as you progress.

The stack is standard Laravel/PHP with MySQL, RESTful endpoints, and a Vue-flavoured front end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). You should feel comfortable tracing complex queries, refactoring controllers, tightening Eloquent relationships, caching wisely, and measuring gains with tools such as Laravel Telescope, Xdebug, or Blackfire.

I keep good coding standards throughout the project, so I expect clean, well-commented commits and small, self-contained pull requests. Continuous integration is already in place; every change you push should pass the existing test suite and demonstrate a tangible speed-up in page load or API response time.

Deliverables (all due by the end of day three):
• Updated, performance-tuned source code committed to the repo
• Brief change log explaining what was optimised and why
• Before/after metrics (query counts, response times, or similar) collected from the staging environment
• Quick hand-off note so my in-house team can deploy confidently to production
