I’m building a browser-based playground where children and teens who have never written a line of code can guide a bright, on-screen world with real JavaScript commands. The goal is to replace dry tutorials with hands-on puzzles that feel like a game—students type code in one pane and watch the results play out instantly in the other, learning logic and syntax almost by accident.
To get there I need someone who understands both web development and game mechanics. You will architect the full stack, wire an in-browser code editor to a lightweight game engine, and create a system that automatically checks each solution so beginners receive immediate feedback. Everything must run smoothly on desktop and tablet, remain lightweight for classroom bandwidth, and be simple for me to expand with new levels later.
Deliverables
• Responsive web app with split-screen editor and live game canvas
• Game layer where learner-written JavaScript controls movement, animation, and events (Phaser, PixiJS, ThreeJS, or a tool you prefer)
• Sandbox validator that runs the learner’s code safely and returns clear pass/fail messages
• Level management interface so new challenges can be added without redeploying the core app
• Starter module of at least five beginner-friendly challenges, each unlockable on success, with celebratory feedback
Acceptance criteria: a 10- to 14-year-old with no prior experience can complete the first module unaided, advancing through every challenge solely by editing code.
If you’ve built educational games, interactive coding sites, or browser-based game engines before, please share links or demos. Let’s make learning to program irresistible for the next generation.
