Senior Embedded Firmware & Electronics Engineer – IoT Suppression Systems

We are looking for an experienced embedded firmware and electronics engineer to take responsibility for the ongoing development, maintenance, testing and improvement of our existing IoT fire detection and suppression systems.

Our products already have PCBs, firmware and electronic control systems developed. We need someone who can take over the existing designs, troubleshoot issues, improve performance and support future product development.

This is a long-term role requiring both strong firmware development skills and practical, hands-on electronics experience.

Responsibilities include:

- Maintain, debug and improve our existing embedded firmware.
- Work with flame, heat, gas, smoke, PT100 and linear heat detection sensors.
- Test sensor accuracy, response times, calibration and detection logic.
- Develop and troubleshoot CAN bus communication between sensor modules and controllers.
- Manage Wi-Fi, GSM/4G and other device connectivity.
- Develop and maintain communication between firmware, AWS backend and mobile applications.
- Test solenoid control, outputs, relays, alarms, pressure switches and safety interlocks.
- Diagnose PCB faults, component failures and electrical issues.
- Perform practical bench testing using real hardware and electronic test equipment.
- Support OTA firmware updates, fault reporting and device diagnostics.
- Work with our software engineer to ensure reliable integration with cloud services, dashboards and mobile applications.
- Assist with PCB improvements, component selection, prototypes and manufacturing support when required.

Experience required:

- Strong embedded C/C++ programming experience.
- Experience with microcontrollers, embedded electronics and PCB troubleshooting.
- CAN bus, UART, SPI, I2C and wireless communication protocols.
- Experience with sensors, signal processing and calibration.
- Experience with solenoids, relays, MOSFET drivers and electronic control circuits.
- Experience with Wi-Fi, cellular communication and IoT systems.
- Practical experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analysers and other testing equipment.
- Ability to read schematics, review PCB layouts and work with Gerber files and BOMs.
- Experience with safety-critical or industrial control systems would be highly regarded.

What we expect:

We need someone who can do more than write firmware. You must be comfortable physically testing electronics, investigating faults and working with our existing hardware.

All development must be documented, tested and verified before release. We expect complete editable source code, build instructions, firmware binaries, test results and technical documentation.

The engineer must work within our existing hardware architecture unless changes are reviewed and approved.

You will also be required to sign our NDA and contractor agreement before receiving access to confidential designs, firmware or technical information.

All work will be carried out under our security and intellectual property requirements.

Please provide details of your relevant experience, examples of similar projects, your hourly rate, weekly availability and whether you have access to the necessary electronics testing equipment.

We are looking for a long-term engineer who can take responsibility for the firmware and electronics side of our business and work closely with our software development team.
