I’m looking for a Washington DC–based intern who can dive deep into Asian trade policy and turn complex information into concise, actionable insights. Your primary responsibility will be research and analysis; I’ll rely on you to track legislative developments, multilateral negotiations, and tariff changes across key Asian economies, then translate your findings into clear briefs I can use for stakeholder meetings here in the city.
Day-to-day you will:
• Monitor official government releases, think-tank publications, and reputable media for trade-related updates in Asia
• Compile weekly summaries highlighting implications for U.S. businesses and policymakers
• Produce short policy memos (2-3 pages) with data tables or charts where relevant
• Maintain a spreadsheet of current and pending agreements, tariff schedules, and dispute cases
I’ll provide initial source lists and formatting templates; you bring sharp analytical skills, solid writing, and the ability to work on-site in DC at least twice a week for quick check-ins and access to our library resources. Familiarity with WTO databases, UN Comtrade, or similar tools is a plus.
Acceptance criteria:
1. All briefs meet the template structure and are delivered by the agreed deadlines.
2. Data points are sourced, dated, and hyperlinked for verification.
3. Insights clearly outline potential economic impacts on U.S. stakeholders.
If you enjoy untangling cross-border trade dynamics and can communicate them clearly, I’d love to hear how you would approach the first month’s research.
