I have a TI-OS graphing calculator on my desk, a bag of parts, and a YouTube tutorial that supposedly turns the device into a pocket-sized ChatGPT terminal. What I need now is an experienced hardware-meets-firmware problem-solver who can transform that theory into a working build.
Here is what you will be working with
• Device: Graphing calculator running TI-OS
• Goal: Load and run ChatGPT locally (or via whatever clever connectivity you propose)
• Desired integration level: “Camera” – I chose this because I want to push the project further than simple text replies; ideally the camera add-on will feed images straight to ChatGPT for on-device analysis. If you see a smarter route, feel free to outline it, but the camera element must remain central.
Scope of work
1. Review the tutorial link I provide, confirm parts list, and flag any missing components.
2. Flash or otherwise modify the TI-OS firmware so the calculator can call the ChatGPT model (or a lightweight proxy).
3. Build the hardware interface, including the camera module, and make sure the calculator’s limited I/O can handle it.
4. Optimise prompts and memory usage so responses appear on the calculator’s screen within practical timeframes.
5. Walk me through final testing so I can replicate the build on a second unit.
Acceptance criteria
• ChatGPT responds to text entered on the calculator keypad.
• Camera images can be captured and sent to ChatGPT, with the reply displayed on-screen.
• All modifications are reversible or clearly documented.
• Source code, build scripts, and wiring diagrams delivered at hand-off.
