I am seeking a reliable, detail-oriented book research and writing assistant based in India for an ongoing nonfiction book project. I will provide the book concept, chapter objectives, outlines, questions, and clear directions. The freelancer will help locate credible information, document sources, collect relevant quotations, support survey research, organize findings, and turn my directions into well-structured draft material.
This is a collaborative role, not an independent ghostwriting assignment. I will determine the book’s ideas, arguments, structure, and final content. The selected freelancer must be comfortable following detailed instructions, revising work based on feedback, and maintaining accurate records for every source used.
Responsibilities
Research assigned topics using credible books, journal articles, reports, government sources, reputable publications, and other appropriate primary or authoritative sources.
Prepare concise research briefs organized around the questions and chapter outline I provide.
Locate useful quotations and record the exact wording, author, publication, date, page number when available, and source link.
Clearly distinguish direct quotations, paraphrases, and the freelancer’s own notes.
Help develop survey questions, organize survey responses, summarize results, and identify themes. The survey scope, audience, distribution method, and sample size will be agreed upon before work begins.
Draft or revise chapter sections from my outlines, notes, and research instructions while preserving my intended voice and argument.
Fact-check names, dates, statistics, quotations, and claims before submission.
Maintain a source log and format citations in [choose one: APA / Chicago Notes and Bibliography / Chicago Author-Date] style.
Revise deliverables promptly after review and feedback.
Keep all outlines, drafts, research, survey responses, and project discussions confidential.
Initial paid assignment
The project will begin with a small paid trial assignment for one book topic or subsection. The trial will require:
A 2–3 page research brief based on a question and outline I provide.
At least 8 credible sources, including primary or authoritative sources where available.
A source table listing each claim or quotation, its citation, page number when applicable, and working link.
Five to ten relevant quotations reproduced accurately and accompanied by complete source details.
A proposed set of 8–12 neutral survey questions related to the assigned topic.
A short draft section of approximately 800–1,200 words based on the approved research.
Strong performance on the trial may lead to ongoing chapter-by-chapter work for approximately 5–10 hours per week, with the workload adjusted as the book develops.
Required qualifications
Excellent written English and strong research skills.
Demonstrated experience in nonfiction, research writing, developmental editing, journalism, academic research, or book assistance.
Ability to evaluate source credibility and maintain accurate citations.
Experience designing surveys, conducting structured interviews, or analyzing qualitative responses is preferred.
Strong attention to detail, responsiveness, and ability to meet agreed deadlines.
Willingness to work iteratively and follow detailed editorial directions.
High standards of confidentiality and professional integrity.
Research and originality standards
All work must be original and free from plagiarism.
No quotation, statistic, interview statement, survey response, citation, or source may be invented or altered.
Every factual claim and direct quotation must be traceable to a source supplied in the source log.
AI tools may not be used to fabricate research, citations, quotations, interviews, or survey data. Any permitted AI use must be disclosed and independently verified against the original source.
Copyrighted material should not be copied beyond brief, properly attributed quotations unless permission has been obtained.
The freelancer may not contact survey participants or interviewees until the outreach plan and message have been approved.
All project files and collected data must be returned at the end of the engagement and may not be reused or shared.
Please include in your bid
A short introduction describing relevant book, research, writing, editing, or survey experience.
Two relevant work samples, preferably one research-based sample and one polished nonfiction sample.
A brief explanation of how you verify facts, quotations, and citations.
Your experience with survey design, interviews, or qualitative research, if any.
Your preferred citation style and research tools.
Your hourly rate in USD and weekly availability.
The words “verified sources” at the beginning of your proposal so I know you read the full description.
Please do not submit generic proposals. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to discuss their research process and complete the paid trial assignment described above.
