Illustrate Penny Pirouette’s Dance Adventures

Digital Illustrator for Penny Pirouette, a Children’s Dance Chapter Book

I’m looking for a digital illustrator for Penny Pirouette, an illustrated chapter book for readers ages 7 to 11. Penny is a spirited nine-year-old dancer with a big personality and a high brown ponytail that sometimes has ideas of its own. When she joins a new studio, she has to find her place on the team and learn to trust what makes her unique.

I have an existing 6 × 9 inch visual layout for all ten chapters, including chapter opening pages, and character references to work from. The book combines story text with illustrated panels. I’m looking for expressive faces, a soft color palette, and simple backgrounds that keep the focus on the characters. Penny and her teammates should look their age and stay recognizable from panel to panel. Dance movement needs to be believable, and I’ll provide pose references and feedback.

The project will begin with one paid sample page from the book. I’d like to review rough sketches before final color. If the sample is a good fit, we’ll review the full layout together and agree on the illustration count, pricing, chapter milestones, deadlines, and future requirements such as full book illustrations including front and back covers.

I’m looking for original, human-drawn digital artwork. Please disclose any AI tools you use and how you use them. Any generative AI use requires my prior approval. Final deliverables include editable layered source files, high-resolution artwork prepared for print, full commercial rights transfer, and a written agreement covering copyright transfer for the commissioned illustrations.

It’s essential that the illustrator understands anatomy for technical dance poses with accuracy.

- Two or three relevant portfolio examples, ideally showing the same child character across several panels and a character in motion.
- One example that shows how you went from rough sketch to final art.
- Your price and turnaround for one paid sample page, plus your availability for the full book.
- The software and layered file format you use, confirmation that you’ll personally create the artwork, and whether you can agree to the requested copyright transfer.
