I’m putting together a single, easy-to-follow guide that walks designers and installers through the full Manual J, Manual S and Manual D process. The end product should read like a compact design bible: start with accurate load calculations (Manual J), flow naturally into duct layout and sizing (Manual D), and finish with clear procedures for selecting matched equipment (Manual S).
Here’s what I need from you:
• A logically sequenced document (Word or Google Docs, deliverable as PDF too) that explains each step in plain language but references the ACCA standards, ASHRAE data tables and any formulas you rely on.
• Worked examples—one for a small residence, one for a light-commercial space—showing the numbers from initial inputs through final equipment schedules.
• Checklists or worksheets that a field tech can photocopy or upload into software such as Wrightsoft, HVAC-Calc or Elite.
• Simple diagrams illustrating duct transitions, plenum sizing and critical pressure points. CAD or clean vector drawings are fine; clarity matters more than art.
• A short glossary so newcomers don’t get lost in jargon.
Acceptance criteria
The finished manual must:
1. Cover sizing & load calculations, ductwork design and equipment selection in that order, without skipping any prescribed ACCA steps.
2. Cite every standard or source you quote.
3. Be usable as a standalone reference by someone with basic HVAC background.
4. Arrive error-free, ready for print and digital distribution.
If you’ve produced similar HVAC design documentation before, link or describe it briefly when you respond. Looking forward to working together on a resource the whole team can depend on.
