Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.
Overview
This is a pro-bono volunteer position.
The Engagement Specialist is responsible for fostering connection, commitment, and retention across JerseySTEM’s volunteer community. This role focuses on building strong relationships, improving the member experience, and ensuring volunteers feel informed, valued, and aligned with JerseySTEM’s mission.
Responsibilities
Design member engagement strategies to increase volunteer satisfaction, retention, and long-term commitment
Serve as the main point of contact for members experience and engagement initiatives
Run regular engagement touchpoints such as onboarding sessions, check-ins, feedback loops, and community meetings
Partner with department heads to ensure consistent communication and engagement practices across teams
Identify engagement risks (disengagement, burnout, drop-off) and proactively address them
Promote a culture of belonging, transparency, collaboration, and appreciation
Develop engagement programs, rituals, and recognition initiatives
Collect feedback from members and translate insights into actionable improvements
Ensure engagement documentation, guidelines, and best practices are clearly defined and shared
Qualifications
2+ years of experience with engagement projects
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
Highly organized, proactive, and people-oriented
Ability to influence without authority and collaborate across departments
Sense of urgency and ownership: engagement issues are addressed quickly
Experience in HR, People Operations, Community Management, or Volunteer Management is a plus
Commitment: 6 hours per week for 6 months.
