I have a new household item in mind and I’m ready to move from sketches to a working prototype. I need a precise 3D CAD model that can be sent straight to either a 3-D printer or a CNC shop, so the geometry must be manufacturing-ready rather than just a visual render.
The concept includes several functional parts—think snap-fit sections, interlocking seams, and space for a small off-the-shelf component—so the file has to go beyond a basic shell. Moderate detail is perfect: accurate exterior surfaces, proper wall thicknesses, and all mating features modeled with realistic tolerances.
I’ll supply hand sketches, rough dimensions, and notes on how the parts should interact. From you I expect:
• A clean parametric CAD model (STEP or IGES preferred; STL for print tests).
• One round of minor revisions after I review the first pass and test basic fit in a rapid prototype.
• A short PDF drawing or exploded view that labels key features and critical dimensions.
Most mainstream packages—SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, even Rhino with Grasshopper—are fine as long as the exported files are watertight and meet common machine-shop standards.
If you’re comfortable preparing print-ready or mill-ready files for consumer products and can advise on small tweaks to improve manufacturability, let’s get started.
