I have the seed of a concept: every person must one day “wake up” inside a shimmering screen-space, learning how to exist in this pixelated layer while remembering fragments of life outside it. I want that moment turned into a polished short story that ultimately leaves readers hopeful and inspired.
The protagonist is a young adult—they should feel relatable, inquisitive, and resilient as they explore the strange digital realm and discover its quiet rules. By the final scene the experience should point toward growth, connection, and possibility rather than despair. Think gentle sci-fi with emotional warmth, not dystopia.
I imagine something in the 2,000–3,500 word range, but I’m flexible if the arc needs a touch more or less room. Please weave vivid sensory detail—how light fractures, how textures glitch—as well as inner reflection on identity and memory. A smooth, uplifting resolution is essential.
Deliverables
• Final short story in .docx or Google Doc
• A brief (100–200 word) author’s note explaining key themes and choices
I’m happy to answer any clarifying questions along the way and will provide prompt feedback on drafts.
