Historic Gaelic Garment Crafting

I am commissioning a complete ócaire-class outfit for early-medieval Scotland and, at the same time, want hands-on tuition so I can eventually weave, sew and dye my own pieces.

Garments to be delivered
• Brown wool Ionar (jacket)
• Undyed linen Léine – long-sleeve, ankle-length tunic
• Wool Crios belt – four times my waist measurement
• Yellow wool Brat cloak

All cloth must be loom-woven by hand, every seam hand-stitched, and the colour palette produced with historically accurate plant dyes. While you may craft the finished pieces on your own schedule, I would like to be present for – and learn – every key step in weaving, sewing and especially dyeing.

Training component
• One in-person teaching day each week (weaving, sewing, dyeing: all are equally important to me).
• Instruction should cover the Ionar, Léine and Brat.
• I supply materials and equipment once you give me an itemised list; you receive £40 per teaching hour.
• Any practice items we make together are counted only as training time, not part of the commissioned garments.

Acceptance
1. Finished garments match agreed measurements and period construction details.
2. Dye shades replicate the brown, undyed and yellow specified using authentic sources.
3. Weekly sessions provide clear, progressive skills with the option for written notes or video summaries.
