YouTube Thumbnail Designer Needed – High CTR Animation Channel

We are looking for a professional YouTube thumbnail designer to work with an established animated YouTube channel.

This is long-term ongoing work for the right person.

We need 2 high-quality thumbnail concepts per video, designed specifically to maximise CTR and stop viewers scrolling.

You will be given:
Our YouTube channel
The video title/concept
Clear examples of our established visual style
Creative direction for each upcoming video
What we're looking for:
Strong understanding of YouTube CTR and thumbnail psychology
Ability to create thumbnails that communicate the idea instantly on mobile
Excellent composition and visual hierarchy
Strong cartoon/stick-figure illustration skills
Excellent facial expressions and body language
Bold, extremely readable typography
Ability to create emotional tension and curiosity without making the thumbnail cluttered
Ability to follow and improve an existing visual identity
Reliable communication and fast turnaround

Our thumbnails are intentionally simple: usually 1–2 characters, 2–4 words, strong expressions and one immediately understandable emotional moment.

We are not looking for generic graphic design. We want someone who understands why people click YouTube videos and can turn a video idea into a genuinely scroll-stopping thumbnail.

Trial

Shortlisted applicants will be given an upcoming video title/concept along with our channel, visual references and creative direction.

You will create a thumbnail concept for that upcoming video so we can assess how well you understand the channel and translate an idea into a high-CTR thumbnail.

Ongoing workload

Approximately 1–2 videos per week.

We require 2 finished thumbnail concepts for each video so that we can test different packaging approaches.

Budget

$20 USD per video for 2 finished thumbnail concepts initially.

There is potential for increased rates and consistent long-term work for someone who repeatedly produces excellent thumbnails.

To apply

Please send:

Your 3 best YouTube thumbnails — not your entire portfolio
Any examples of cartoon, animation or illustrated YouTube thumbnails
Your normal turnaround time
Confirmation that you are happy to complete a trial
A short explanation of what makes a YouTube thumbnail get clicked

Please start your proposal with the word “THUMBNAIL” so we know you've read the full brief.

We're looking for someone who wants ongoing work and can become a reliable part of the channel — not someone looking for a one-off project.
