I’m preparing a clinical-research abstract for an upcoming gastroenterology conference and want to move from idea to polished submission on a tight timeline. Right now I have a clear research question but no dataset, so the project begins with designing a sound study protocol, organising reliable data collection, and then completing the statistical analysis before we turn the findings into a compelling, 250-300-word abstract that meets the conference’s formatting rules.

Here’s how I see the workflow progressing:
• Study plan: refine the hypothesis, define inclusion/exclusion criteria, craft data-collection sheets and an IRB-friendly protocol.
• Data acquisition: coordinate chart reviews or a small prospective series (whichever proves most practical), clean the dataset and prepare it for analysis.
• Statistics: run descriptive and comparative tests in SPSS, R or SAS, generate tables/figures, and summarise key outcomes.
• Writing: draft, edit and finalise the abstract so it is publication-ready, clear, and within word limits; a short explanation of methods and key results that will catch reviewers’ attention.

Acceptance criteria
1. A complete, anonymised dataset with accompanying codebook.
2. Statistical output and a brief methods note that can be copied into the abstract if needed.
3. Final abstract in Word and PDF, formatted to conference guidelines and under the word limit.

Strong communication and experience with clinical GI research, biostatistics and abstract writing are crucial, as I’ll rely on you to guide best practices and help meet submission deadlines.
