Full-Time Medical ASL Interpreter

I’m building a small, dedicated interpreting team for a Deaf medical student in Rochester, Minnesota which requires 2 full-time members. The work is entirely on-site and truly immersive: I need you beside the student throughout clinical rotations, classroom instruction, and patient encounters, as well as during hospital rounds, meetings, conferences, academic lectures, labs, and the occasional virtual session.

What makes this assignment different is its academic-clinical blend. Each day moves rapidly from simulation labs to patient consults, then back to lectures or grand rounds, so I rely on an interpreter who:

• Commands both ASL and spoken English at an advanced level
• Navigates complex medical terminology with ease and is willing to keep refining glossaries
• Exercises sound judgment and quick decision-making in high-stakes environments
• Adapts smoothly to fluctuating academic schedules, clinical pacing, and teamwork hand-offs

RID certification (or an equivalent credential) is strongly preferred and will streamline onboarding. You’ll receive a yearly contract guaranteed rate between $85,000 and $100,000. Relocation assistance may be available.

Compensation and Schedule:
- Guaranteed biweekly flat-rate compensation.
- Full-time immersive contract position.
- Shared coverage model with another full-time designated interpreter or designated team member.
- Relocation assistance may be available.
- Schedule will generally follow the medical student’s required academic and clinical activities.
- Primary schedule is anticipated to be Monday through Friday, with flexibility required for early mornings, evenings, weekends, conferences, examinations, clinical rotations, and schedule changes.
- The medical student’s schedule may vary significantly by academic term, course, clerkship, and clinical service.
- Contract term may align with one or more years of the student’s medical education and may be renewed based on program needs, performance, and mutual agreement.

Day to day, you’ll prepare material in advance, coordinate schedules with faculty and clinical staff, manage seamless hand-offs with co-interpreters, and support the student in every communication mode needed—interpreting, transliterating, sight translation, or written clarification.
