Summary
We're looking for a hands-on Full Stack Developer to help turn an established desktop-based product into a modern, browser-based SaaS application.
The core product already has a mature backend engine written in C, and that system will remain in place. Your role will be to build the web and cloud layer around it: a clean REST API, a modern React-based interface, and the infrastructure needed to run the application securely as a multi-tenant SaaS product.
This is an early phase of the cloud product, so you'll have a real say in the technical direction and architecture. You'll work closely with our senior backend engineer, who has deep knowledge of the existing system and will help define the integration points.
What You'll Work On
- Build a responsive web application using React, TypeScript/JavaScript, or a similar modern frontend stack.
- Develop a REST API using Python, Node.js, or another suitable backend technology.
- Connect the new API layer to the existing C-based processing engine through its established interface. There is no expectation that you modify the C code itself.
- Help design the overall architecture for the new SaaS application, including how the frontend, API, processing engine, and supporting services communicate.
- Containerize services with Docker and help deploy and operate them with Kubernetes.
- Set up and improve CI/CD workflows for reliable testing and deployments.
- Build with multi-tenancy, security, reliability, and maintainability in mind from the beginning.
- Work directly with the senior backend engineer and company leadership to solve technical problems and make practical architecture decisions.
What We're Looking For
You should be comfortable owning a project across both frontend and backend rather than working strictly within one narrow area.
We're particularly interested in someone with:
- Strong professional experience with React and modern JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Solid backend development experience with Python, Node.js, or a comparable language.
- Experience designing and implementing production REST APIs.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in real-world environments.
- Experience integrating newer applications with established or legacy backend systems.
- Good working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems.
- The ability to make sensible technical decisions without needing a large engineering organization around you.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. You'll be working directly with a small, experienced team.
Helpful Experience
It would be useful, though not required, if you have worked on:
- Moving an established on-premise or desktop application toward a cloud/SaaS model.
- Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform or similar tools.
- Automated deployment and CI/CD systems.
- Software used in industries where security, compliance, or reliability are important, such as healthcare, finance, or government.
- Multi-tenant application architecture.
Project & Working Arrangement
This will begin as a part-time contract, approximately 10–20 hours per week, with the possibility of becoming a longer-term engagement as the product develops.
The position is remote and open internationally. We'd especially like candidates who can regularly overlap with US Central Time working hours, with candidates in Latin America or the US being particularly convenient for collaboration.
You'll work directly with our senior backend engineer and company leadership, with very little organizational overhead.
