PyNex helps students develop practical software engineering and AI skills through hands-on learning and real-world product-building experiences.
We organize AI Product Buildathons where students use modern AI coding tools to plan, develop, test, and deploy working applications.
We are looking for freelance developers and mentors who can guide college students through hands-on software development workshops and AI Product Buildathons.
You will help participants turn their ideas into functional applications, understand the development process, resolve technical issues, and deploy their projects.
This is a hands-on mentoring role, not a traditional classroom teaching position.
- Conduct hands-on AI and software development sessions at colleges.
- Guide students in converting ideas into clear project requirements and development plans.
- Help participants build web applications using AI-assisted coding tools.
- Mentor students in React, JavaScript/TypeScript, APIs, databases, and backend development.
- Assist with Supabase/PostgreSQL setup, environment variables, GitHub, and deployment.
- Help students debug errors and understand the code generated by AI tools.
- Explain basic software development practices, testing, security, and troubleshooting.
- Track student progress and help teams complete their project milestones.
- Support final project demonstrations and provide constructive feedback.
- Coordinate with the PyNex team before and during each event.
- Practical experience building and deploying web applications.
- Good understanding of JavaScript and modern frontend development.
- Familiarity with React and REST APIs.
- Working knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL or Supabase.
- Experience with GitHub and deployment platforms such as Vercel.
- Familiarity with AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or Windsurf.
- Ability to debug problems and explain technical concepts clearly.
- Strong communication skills and patience when mentoring beginners.
- Experience with Node.js, Express, Python, or AI/LLM integrations.
- Experience conducting workshops, mentoring students, or leading development teams.
- Experience building complete applications from requirements to deployment.
- A portfolio, GitHub profile, or live projects demonstrating practical skills.
- Freelance, event-based assignments rather than a guaranteed full-time position.
- Payment determined by technical expertise, event duration, preparation requirements, and responsibilities.
- College visits may be required.
- Event agendas, deliverables, and payment terms will be agreed upon before each assignment.
- Opportunities for repeat assignments based on performance and upcoming events.
Please share:
1. Your name and current location.
2. Your relevant development experience.
3. Your GitHub profile and/or portfolio.
4. The AI coding tools and technologies you use.
5. Any workshop or mentoring experience.
6. Your expected payment for a full-day event.
