Prox Games is looking for a versatile visual designer or illustrator to help establish the complete visual identity of Fortress, an original digital strategy game built around positioning, proximity, and pieces that become stronger by supporting one another.

We already have a working game concept, prototype materials, and several explored visual directions. We now need an experienced designer who can turn those ideas into a distinctive, cohesive, production-ready design system.

Scope of work

The designer will collaborate with us on:

* Game-piece design: Create a visually unified family of pieces with distinctive silhouettes and clear hierarchy. Pieces must remain recognizable at small sizes and work well on a digital game board.
* Board design: Develop the board’s colors, geometry, spaces, textures, and overall presentation so gameplay remains highly readable while still feeling visually distinctive.
* Logo and branding: Refine or create the Fortress logo, typography, color palette, iconography, and supporting brand elements.
* Website look and feel: Establish the visual direction for the Fortress website, including page styling, imagery, typography, colors, and representative layouts. Website development is not required.
* Overall art direction: Help define a consistent visual language that can extend across the game, website, marketing materials, storefronts, and future promotional assets.

What we are looking for:

The strongest candidate will have experience in several of the following areas:

* Game art or board-game design
* Character, object, or game-piece design
* Strong silhouette and icon design
* Logo and visual-identity development
* Website or product visual design
* Designing for clarity at small screen sizes
* Creating systems in which every element feels part of the same world

This project requires more than decorating an existing interface. We want someone who can think conceptually, explore different directions, explain design decisions, and help us discover the strongest visual identity for the game.

Deliverables

Exact deliverables will be finalized collaboratively, but we expect the engagement to include:

* Visual exploration and mood boards
* Multiple initial art-direction concepts
* Final designs for the core game pieces
* Light and dark player-color variations
* Board and background design
* Fortress logo and supporting brand assets
* Color, typography, and visual-style guidelines
* Website visual concepts or high-fidelity mockups
* Production-ready source and export files
* Clear documentation for applying the visual system consistently

Final assets should be delivered in appropriate editable formats, including layered and vector files where applicable. We will require commercial usage rights and ownership of the commissioned final work.

Working relationship

We expect this to be a collaborative, milestone-based engagement beginning with visual exploration and moving into refinement and production. There may be opportunities for continued work on UI elements, marketing assets, animation, additional themes, and future Prox Games projects.

We value:

* Clear communication
* Thoughtful iteration
* Openness to feedback
* Consistency across many types of assets
* Original work and transparent disclosure of any generative-AI use

To apply

Please include:

1. A portfolio showing your most relevant work
2. Examples of game pieces, icons, branding, board games, or game interfaces
3. A brief description of how you would approach creating one cohesive identity across the pieces, board, brand, and website
4. Your availability and preferred pricing structure
5. The design software you use
6. Your role in any collaborative portfolio projects you include

Please begin your proposal with the word "FORTRESS" so we know you have read the complete description.

We are particularly interested in designers whose work combines immediate visual clarity with personality—something as readable and intuitive as a classic strategy game, but unmistakably its own.
