# Children's Book Designer Needed — Layout & Amazon KDP Formatting

I am looking for an experienced **children's book designer / book layout specialist** to professionally assemble and format a completed children's book for publication through Amazon KDP.

## PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING

The stories, recipes, characters, and illustrations for this project are **already created**.

I am **NOT** looking for someone to write the stories or create an entirely new book.

I need an experienced designer who can take my completed materials and turn them into a polished, professional, print-ready children's book.

## THE BOOK

The book follows **Jayden, a 10-year-old aspiring chef living in New London, Connecticut**, through five connected stories about cooking, family, community, and following his dream of becoming a chef.

Each story includes a cooking/food theme and is followed by a kid-friendly recipe.

The five completed stories will be combined into **one paperback book**.

## TARGET AUDIENCE

Approximately **ages 7–10 / Grades 2–5**.

The finished product should look and feel like a professionally published children's storybook — **not a workbook, textbook, or school handout**.

## PLANNED BOOK SPECIFICATIONS

* Amazon KDP paperback
* 8.5" × 8.5" square trim
* Full-color interior
* Approximately 60–72 pages
* Full bleed where appropriate
* Five illustrated stories
* Kid-friendly recipes
* Front and back matter
* Full-color paperback cover
* Professional children's-book typography and layout

The final page count may change slightly during professional layout.

## MATERIALS PROVIDED

I will provide the selected designer with:

* All five completed manuscripts
* Existing illustrations
* Character artwork/reference material
* Recipe content
* Cover concepts/artwork if applicable
* Author information
* Branding and other available project assets

The designer's job is to professionally organize and lay out these materials into one cohesive book.

## DESIGN WORK REQUIRED

The selected designer will be responsible for:

* Designing the complete 8.5" × 8.5" interior
* Laying out all five stories
* Professionally placing text and illustrations
* Creating consistent typography
* Designing story/chapter opening pages
* Designing attractive recipe pages
* Formatting title and copyright pages
* Formatting table of contents if used
* Formatting author/about and other back matter
* Maintaining consistent visual style throughout the book
* Establishing appropriate margins and gutter
* Setting proper bleed and safe areas
* Checking image placement and print quality
* Preparing the finished interior to Amazon KDP specifications
* Preparing the final full-wrap paperback cover after the final page count is established
* Providing print-ready PDF files
* Providing the final editable/source files

## I WANT TO SEE YOUR WORK BEFORE SELECTING A DESIGNER

Please **DO NOT send a generic proposal**.

I want to see examples of your actual work.

Please provide **2–5 examples of children's books you personally designed or formatted**.

I am especially interested in seeing:

* Illustrated children's books
* Square-format children's books
* Books combining text and illustrations
* Recipe or cooking books for children
* Full-color interiors
* Amazon KDP books
* Two-page spreads
* Professional recipe-page layouts

Please clearly explain **what work you personally performed** on each example.

For example:

**Book #1:** Interior layout, typography and KDP formatting
**Book #2:** Interior + cover design
**Book #3:** Complete children's-book layout and prepress

Please do not submit work created by another designer.

## SAMPLE PAGE

Before committing to the complete layout, I would like to establish the visual direction for the book.

Please tell me whether you are willing to create a **small sample layout using material I provide**.

The sample may include:

* One children's story page OR two-page spread
* Placement of supplied artwork
* Sample typography
* Basic page composition

**Do not redesign the characters or replace my artwork.**

The purpose of the sample is to demonstrate how you would professionally lay out my existing material.

If you normally charge for a sample, please state the sample price separately in your proposal.

## IMPORTANT — EXISTING CHARACTERS & ARTWORK

The characters and their appearances have already been established.

Character consistency is extremely important.

Do not substitute AI-generated people or redesign established characters without my approval.

Existing artwork should be used as provided unless we specifically agree that an asset needs modification.

## FINAL DELIVERABLES

The project is not considered complete until I receive:

* Print-ready KDP interior PDF
* Print-ready KDP full-wrap paperback cover PDF
* Editable/source layout files
* Linked/placed project assets as appropriate
* Fonts or font information/licensing details necessary for future editing
* Final corrected version after approved revisions

Files must meet current Amazon KDP print requirements.

## OWNERSHIP

All final project files and completed layout/design work created specifically for this project must be provided to me upon final payment.

Any third-party fonts, stock graphics, or licensed assets used in the project must be disclosed before they are incorporated into the book.
