Folding Wooden Board-Game Tabletop

I want a fold-up tabletop purpose-built for board-game nights. The core requirement is that every visible surface is wood; beyond that I’m open to your ideas on joinery, hinges, and lock-in supports so the table feels rock solid while open and folds down flat enough to store in a closet.

Size should comfortably host most modern games (roughly 36-40 in square when opened, though you can suggest better proportions). A smooth playing surface, tidy edge bevel, and flush seams matter more to me than a showy finish, so feel free to recommend whether a clear coat, stain, or other treatment makes the most sense for the species you pick. I have not settled on integrated drawers or hidden cubbies yet—if you think a clever, space-saving storage detail can be added without sacrificing strength or portability, outline it in your proposal and we’ll decide together.
