I have MySQL installed but Workbench never shows the normal database GUI—only the Administrative Server interface. I know the server is running, yet I can’t browse, create, or edit tables because the schema panel never appears.

When I switch to the DOS / Command Prompt route, I’m trying to run basic mysql commands, but the moment I open Command Prompt and type anything, I either get a cryptic error or no response at all. My main goal right now is to fix these command-line errors so I can at least connect and confirm the server is reachable; once that works, the Workbench GUI problem should be easier to diagnose.

I’m very new to both MySQL and Workbench, so please be ready to walk me through prerequisites, environment variables, and any configuration changes step-by-step. Screen-share guidance is welcome.

Deliverables (acceptance criteria):
• Command Prompt opens, recognises the mysql command, and logs me into the server without errors.
• Workbench shows the full database interface (Schemas panel visible, able to browse and manage tables).

If you need version numbers, log files, or screenshots, just let me know and I’ll supply them right away.
